Wimmera: Stakes win adds to Dean's dream run
By Josh Mackay, August 23, 2016 - 8:55 AM

Horsham jockey Dean Yendall’s bright start to 2016/17 continued when he scored an impressive win on Ken’s Dream in the Essendon Nissan McKenzie Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley last Saturday.
The Darren Weir-trained Ken’s Dream ($2.30 favourite) had been a nine-length winner on debut at Echuca a fortnight earlier, and at the Valley he bounced straight to the lead, controlling the race beautifully.
The son of Dream Ahead had all his rivals off the bit before the home turn and already looked the winner.
Once balanced, Ken’s Dream gave a strong kick to record an easy win by a length on the post.
Bigger prizes await Ken’s Dream and presumably Yendall, who had racked up 19 winners in the first 22 days of August to lead the Australian premiership by eight.
Mai Thai all the way
Stawell trainers Terry and Karina O’Sullivan breathed a sigh of relief on Monday when consistent performer Mai Thai broke her maiden status at Echuca, at her 11th attempt.
Horsham rider Christine Puls used the inside barrier draw to her advantage, taking Mai Thai ($4.80) to an uncontested lead in the Moama Bowling Club Maiden Plate (1412m).
The four-year-old Magnus mare was rated well out in front by Puls and proved too good in the run to the line, scoring by a length.
Mai Thai’s previous 10 starts had yielded five seconds and two thirds.
