Eyes on prize
By Winning Post, October 23, 2016 - 9:20 AM

It's been a big Melbourne spring for the visitors so far, and James Cummings and Blake Shinn will be keen to keep the ball rolling this Saturday when Prized Icon tackles the Victoria Derby.

The derby is one of four Group 1 races on the day many purists view as the best on the Australian calendar.

Among the other races set down for decision at Flemington are the Myer Classic for the fillies and mares, the Longines Classic Mile for the milers and the Coolmore Stud Stakes for the three-year-old sprinters.

Who will prevail? Tony Kneebone's derby tip, Kiwi gelding Sacred Elixir, is the cover boy for this week's Winning Post.

Our form coverage kicks off on Friday with full form guides for Moonee Valley, the Horsham Cup day and Wagga plus fields, colours and selections for Moree and the huge 12-race day-nighter at the Sunshine Coast.

The metro racing this Saturday is at Flemington in Melbourne, Rosehill in Sydney, Morphettville in Adelaide, Eagle Farm in Brisbane and Ascot in Perth.

Winning Post carries full-colour liftout guides for all those meetings plus Traralgon (Vic/SA/Tas edition), Beaumont-Newcastle (NSW edition) and Gold Coast (Queensland edition), as well as fields, tips, ratings and/or colours for other TAB Saturday cards.

On Sunday we've got liftout formguides for four more TAB meetings including Peninsula Cup day at Mornington plus fields, ratings, tips and colours for a stack more Sunday and Monday programs.

Don't forget Winning Post now carries trackwork reports for all four Melbourne training tracks, all three in Sydney, Morphettville in Adelaide and a general Brisbane report.

Away from the form, we've got news columns from Queensland, NSW, six Victorian districts, SA and Tasmania.

Our readers have their say on page 4, while further back in the book Shane Templeton reminisces, Paul Richards presents his unique take on the sport, Tony Kneebone brings you his Snippets column and Number Cruncher delivers the stats that matter.

Winning Post costs $5 and is available Thursday afternoon in selected Melbourne newsagents, the crack of dawn Friday elsewhere.
