Central Victoria: 'Quiet' Kissee bounces back
By Paul Egan, January 17, 2017 - 11:14 AM

Kilmore trainer Hanna Powell’s Kissee Mee ($8) made it two wins from her past three races with an impressive victory at Benalla last Sunday.
The four-year-old daughter of Primus and Ellakeira was ridden by apprentice Beau Mertens (replacing Regan Bayliss, who’d been suspended the previous day at Flemington).
Kissee Mee was a long-neck winner of the Comfort Inn Benalla BM58 Handicap (1106m) over $3.40 favourite Streetshavenoname, giving that Robbie Griffiths-trained gelding his 13th second placing.
The Craig Widdison-trained Steve’s Choice ($9) was third.
Powell said the mare could easily have had a hat-trick.
“Things didn’t go to plan at Stony Creek last start.
“She’s such a nice horse to train — so quiet, but you wouldn’t turn your back on her. She could give you a decent bite.
“We have to look for a 64-rating race for her next start. And the way she won, 1200 (metres) wouldn’t be beyond her.
“I just keep her fairly fresh and that allows me to get an extra run or two out of her each prep,” Powell said
Powell also saddled up stablemate Bertoni  in the same race, but unfortunately the gelding failed to beat a runner home and  has since been retired.
Kissee Mee is owned by the trainer and was named by her husband, former Fitzroy (VFL) footballer Ian Powell.
The mare has now won two races with one minor placing from seven starts, for $28,540 in earnings.
Noble quality
In the following race at Benalla, Kyneton trainer Steve Noble combined with his daughter Samantha to take out the Lindsay Park Racing BM58 Handicap (1206m) with Ben Bader ($5).
In an all-3kg-claimer finish, the five-year-old gelded son of Easy Choice and Triple Mocha overcame a wide barrier to defeat Villainous Vixen (ridden by Juana Andreou) by a long neck with Cross of Gold (Lachlan King) a close-up third.
Ben Bader has a liking for the Benalla, circuit having had three starts there for two wins and a close-up second.
Raced by Noor Elaine Farm, the gelding has now won four races with three minor placings from his 18 starts, with $45,745 in earnings.
