Central Victoria: Soft sees Soul score for Scott
By Paul Egan, March 21, 2017 - 12:04 PM

Seymour trainer Jamie Scott saddled up Northern Soul ($7.50) for the five-year-old gelding’s first win for his new stable at Tatura last Sunday.
Formerly in the hands of Jamie Edwards, the son of Northern Meteor was having his sixth start for Scott, who said the gelding had been unlucky not to break through earlier.
“He just had no luck with barrier draws,” he said. “The softer conditions helped.”
The track at Tatura was rated a good 4.
Ridden by Harry Coffey and carrying the colours of the Norwegian flag, Northern Soul took out the Ladbrokes Cash In BM58 Handicap (1600m).
The gelding defeated $2.80 favourite Super Rockstar by three-quarters of a length with Under the Hat ($5.50) a further 2¼ lengths away third.
Scott will target a similar Benchmark 58 for his gelding at Wangaratta on Friday week (March 31) for his next start.
Sunday’s win was the gelding’s second from 20 starts. He has had three minor placings.
Lola bowls them over
Another Seymour trainer to get a win on the board in the past week was Merilyn Anderson, successful with Lola de Oro ($3.60) at Wangaratta’s Thursday meeting.
The five-year-old daughter of Trotamondo took out the BiBrite Home Appliances Wangaratta BM64 Handicap (1590m).
Ridden by the in-form Dean Holland, the mare defeated Excitement ($1.90 favourite) with Dark Nobility ($17) third.
Lola de Oro is also part-owned by Anderson, who has trained the mare throughout her 16-start career for three wins, three minor placings and $46,115.
Gasworx too good
Further up the Hume Highway, at Albury on Sunday, Kyneton trainer George Osborne was seen in the winner’s stall.
Never afraid to border-hop in the quest to place his charges to advantage, Osborne saddled up Gasworx ($1.80 favourite) for a comfortable win in the $30,000 Trackpix 3YO Maiden Showcase Plate (1175m).
The first leg of a riding double for Nick Souquet, the New Zealand-bred O’Reilly gelding defeated Makfi Lass ($13) and Corazon de Oro ($26).
The consistent gelding has now had four starts for Sunday’s win and a Seymour second.
Phoenix rises
Local trainers were wide of the mark at bet365 Kyneton Park on Monday.
Impressive winners on the eight-race card were the Grahame Begg-trained Phoenix Park ($3.30 favourite) in the Bendigo Club BM58 and Lycurgus ($8), trained by Danny O’Brien, in the bet365 BM58. Both should win better races.
Jamie Mott took riding honours with a winning double and could have made it a treble but for having to give up the winning ride aboard $2.70 favourite Pony Montana in the first race.
Mott was stuck in traffic en route to the course when the race was run.
