Local trainer Dane Smith notched a career highlight when his rejuvenated galloper Mujadale ($12) careered away with the Ecycle Solutions Stawell Cup (2000m).
Former Stawell schoolboy Jack Hill was aboard the nine-year-old, who ran his rivals ragged in the straight to record a three-length victory.
It was Smith’s first win with Mujadale since the horse transferred from the Paul Jones yard last year.
It was Mujadale’s fifth start for Smith.
Dante does it for Doug
Another Stawell trainer in Doug Whitworth capped off a good day for the locals when his galloper Dante’s Finale ($4) took out the Dash to the Nash Handicap (1300m). The son of Crystal Finale put up a good performance under Jarrod Fry, lumping 60.5kgs to a narrow victory.
War Story hits form at Warrack
European import War Story produced his best form since arriving in Australia when he proved too good in last Saturday’s Emmett Motors Warracknabeal Cup (1600m).
Trained at Ballarat by Matt Cumani and ridden by Craig Robertson, War Story ($6) never looked in danger of defeat in the straight, dashing clear to win by almost three lengths.
O’Sullivans chime in
It was a quieter than usual Easter for the Stawell stable of Terry and Karina O’Sullivan, with several unlucky minor placings over the feature weekend in the Wimmera.
However, the team did manage one winner — Vatiaz ($4.40) in a benchmark 64 over 2000 metres at Warracknabeal, with Jack Hill on board.
