Wimmera: Tycoon too good
By Josh Mackay, October 24, 2017 - 8:42 AM

Horsham trainer Paul Preusker’s knack with tried horses came in handy again with Winston Tycoon at Bordertown last Sunday.
With stable jockey Holly McKechnie aboard, the six-year-old settled on the speed in the 1300-metre benchmark 64 and stalked the race leader.
Winston Tycoon ($5.50) loomed large before the turn, dashing to the front in the straight and kicking clear to win by 2½ lengths.
It was a second win from nine starts for the six-year-old Churchill Downs gelding and his first in three starts for Preusker.
Winston Tycoon had his first six starts with Ballarat trainer Graeme Hicks, scoring his maiden win at Stawell and two placings.
McKechnie’s good form continued into the Stawell meeting on Monday with a winner at her first ride this season for Darren Weir.
McKechnie was aboard first-starter Cryfowl ($6.50) in a 1300-metre maiden plate and gave the four-year-old Street Cry entire a nice run off a solid early tempo.
Cryfowl unleashed a strong finish, coming home with a wet sail to get up by a head.
The four-year-old races in the “Shocking” colours of Eales Racing and looks to have a bright future.
The win was the second leg of a winning treble for Weir, who also tasted success with Scoliaro ($3.70) and Egyptian Gold ($4.20).
Cryfowl was only McKechnie’s fourth Weir-trained mount since the beginning of last season but those four rides have yielded two wins, a second and a third.
Warrnambool trainer Symon Wilde had a popular winning double at Stawell, saluting with favourites Royal Applause ($3.10) and Purrfect Trick ($3.30).
