SA: McEvoy, Kah strike again
By Peter Neall, October 24, 2017 - 9:54 AM

The combination of trainer Tony McEvoy and jockey Jamie Kah has been a winning formula this season and so it proved again at Morphetville Parks last Saturday.
Kah had just two rides for McEvoy for the meeting and went home with a running double, pleasing favourite backers and taking the pair’s record for 2017/18 to 34 starters for 14 wins.
McEvoy and Kah landed the first leg of their double when lightly raced five-year-old Dollar for Dollar ($1.30 favourite) led all the way in the benchmark 82 Schweppes Handicap (1400m). The win was his second from two starts since a let-up and fifth from 10 starts overall.
McEvoy and Kah went on to take the benchmark 90 Happy 90th Birthday Mum Handicap (1400m) with another odds-on pop, Paseeto ($1.55). Paseeto remains on track for a start in Saturday week’s Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes (1600m) at Flemington.
Kah rode another odds-on double at Balaklava on Wednesday — Cobber ($1.80) for Ryan Balfour and Set to Sparkle ($1.40) for McEvoy.
Big week for Bieg
Local trainer Chris Bieg capped a successful 24 hours when apprentice Sairyn Fawke led all the way on Wanted By All in the benchmark 70 Barry Simpson Handicap (1400m) at the Parks meeting.
The previous day, Bieg had saddled up Excites Zelady for his third win in the listed Carlton Draught Murray Bridge Gold Cup (1600m).
The gelding had won the cup in 2014 and 2015, but could only manage eighth in the 2016 version.
Coming off lacklustre lead-up form last Friday, Excites Zelady was allowed to go around at $26 under Justin Potter.
Dual joy for Joe
Jockey Joe Bowditch was another to enjoy a productive weekend, kicking off at the Parks meeting with an all-the-way win on the Lloyd Kennewell-trained Federal Court ($3.50) in the benchmark 75 Dominant Handicap (1250m).
Riding for Ryan Balfour on Sunday, Bowditch took out the listed $153,000 Seymour Cup (1600m) on Balf’s Choice ($18).
Balfour said he would consider a start for Balf’s Choice in the Group 3 Eclipse Stakes (1800m) at Ladbrokes Park on November 18.
Ton up for Dylan
Congratulations to apprentice Dylan Caboche on bringing up his 100th win when the Phillip Stokes-trained three-year-old filly Lady of Crebilly ($2.20 favourite) won the AAMI Lucky Club Maiden Plate (1250m) at the Parks meeting.
Caboche made it 101 at Bordertown on Sunday, piloting the Shayne Cahill-trained Mako Cove to win the benchmark 60 handicap (1100m).
The race was the final event of an apprentice-only three-race series. The series was won by Victor Wong, who had won the first two races.
Temps hangs on
Joining forces with Cranbourne trainer Robbie Laing, apprentice Emily Finnegan landed the first of two winners for the weekend when she guided Temps Voleur ($7.50) to a narrow all-the-way victory in the benchmark 90 UBET Handicap (1950m) at the Parks meeting.
Finnegan went on to win at Bordertown on Cool Target ($6), second leg of a running double for Murray Bridge trainer Sam Burford, who won the previous with the Sairyn Fawke-ridden Sagano ($4.80).
Clark clicks
Apprentice Raquel Clark was the star of Wednesday’s Balaklava meeting, landing a treble. Two of her winners — Dancing Journey ($2.20 favourite) and Too Tuff Tara ($41) were for her masters, Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas. She scored on another $41 chance, De Jorvik, for John Hyam.
