Heading west
By Winning Post, November 19, 2017 - 10:45 AM

Mighty campaigner Black Heart Bart has won 16 races including five at Group 1 level, but it's been bang on nine months since he last greeted the judge.

Trainer Darren Weir will be hoping a trip back to his native Western Australia will fix that this week, as Bart attacks Saturday's Railway Stakes.

He'll have to contend with top weight, and it may be that Bart is better suited a fortnight hence in the weight-for-age Kingston Town Classic, but you know one thing: the horse who wears his heart on his forehead will be giving his all.

The WA Guineas is the main support act on a quality-packed Ascot program.

Back east, the Victorian spring carnival has its last hurrah with the running of a 10-race card on Sportsbet-Ballarat Cup day. And that's not the only cup action this weekend, because Winning Post will carry full form guides for the country cup days at Wodonga (Friday), bet365 Park Kilmore (Sunday) and Goulburn (Sunday).

Our form coverage kicks off on Friday with full form guides for the Wodonga cup day, Cessnock and the Cranbourne night meeting plus fields, colours and selections for Orange, Port Lincoln, Townsville and Sunshine Coast (night).

The metro racing this Saturday is at Sportsbet-Ballarat in Victoria, Rosehill in Sydney, Morphettville in Adelaide, Doomben in Brisbane and Ascot in Perth.

Winning Post carries full-colour liftout guides for all those meetings plus Yarra Valley (Vic/SA/Tas edition), Gosford (NSW edition) and Gold Coast (Queensland edition), as well as fields, tips, ratings and/or colours for other TAB Saturday cards.

On Sunday we've got liftout formguides for four more TAB meetings plus fields, ratings, tips and colours for a stack more Sunday and Monday programs.

Don't forget Winning Post now carries trackwork reports for all four Melbourne training tracks, all three in Sydney, Morphettville in Adelaide and a general Brisbane report.

Away from the form, we've got news columns from Queensland, NSW, six Victorian districts, SA and Tasmania.

Our readers have their say on page 4, while further back in the book Shane Templeton reminisces, Paul Richards presents his unique take on the sport, Tony Kneebone brings you his Snippets column and Number Cruncher delivers the stats that matter.

Winning Post costs $5 and is available Thursday afternoon in selected Melbourne newsagents, the crack of dawn Friday elsewhere.
