Goldfields: Sevira saves the night for Allen
By Ben Sporle, December 13, 2017 - 6:29 AM

Our Sevira may not have been the result punters were looking for at The Valley last Friday night but the mare provided trainer Allen Browell and a big group of Bendigo owners a thrill in the $40,000 1Print Handicap (1200m).
The win of Our Sevira ($31) was a welcome consolation for the Browells, who had been left scratching their heads after Star Hills finished last as a $3.20 favourite earlier on the program.
Ridden by Rhys McLeod for the first time, Our Sevira stalked the speed and ran over the top of her rivals in the final 100 metres.
“She’s a good mare and has always shown a bit of ability at home but her last two have been a bit disappointing,” stable rep Darren Browell told Racing.com.
“With a different run she stepped up and put her best foot forward tonight.
The daughter of Magnus has always shown above-average ability, with five wins and four placings to her name from 18 starts and $91,235 now in the bank.
The five-year-old is a half-sister to iron gallopers Me Hungi and Stynes, from the dual metropolitan winner Tara’s Range.
Brad bounces back
It didn’t take Bendigo-based comeback trainer Brad Cole long to return to the winner’s stall, with Kinjulator a popular winner in the final event at Yea last Sunday.
Cole was saddling up just his second starter back after four months off the scene with a life-threatening dose of influenza.
Kinjulator backed up from his run at Bendigo on Wednesday to salute under Craig Kirkpatrick, who had been instrumental in keeping the stable ticking along in Cole’s absence.
Cole’s daughter Kimberley strapped the horse and wife Margaret was on course to celebrate the win.
Keith conquers the Kong
Bendigo trainer Keith Rawiller enjoyed a huge thrill on Sunday when he was on course at Sha Tin to watch his son Nash win the Hong Kong Sprint aboard Mr Stunning. Both father and son were emotional after the win.
“It’s been hard work trying to get Dad over here,” Nash Rawiller told Racing.com. “It’s been 3½ years.
“He doesn’t like leaving Australia but I’ve owed a lot to him throughout my career… I think this is as big a thrill as he’s had since I won the Caulfield Cup.”
Keith Rawiller took out his training licence in late 2014 and has trained eight winners from a small team of horses.
Set to resume
Shane Fliedner’s stable star Setinum is ready to return to the races at Caulfield on Saturday after a smart trial at Tatura on Monday. It was the dual stakes winner’s first public outing since March and followed several setbacks.
The six-year-old was ridden by Harry Coffey and finished third in the 850-metre trial, settling three wide and allowed to stride to the line. Damien Thornton will ride at Caulfield.
Get to the ’Go
A big crowd is expected on Sunday at Bendigo for the Bertocchi Christmas Party Raceday, with a sunny 30 degrees expected and limited packages remaining. General admission tickets are $20.
Following the meeting the Bendigo Jockey Club will undertake its annual renovation period, with racing on hold until Friday February 9, with the popular Marong Cup meeting to follow on February 17.
Track manager Bernard Hopkins should be congratulated on presenting the surface in superb order throughout the year.
