Wimmera: Kapaulenko caps whopper weekend

Horsham trainer Paul Preusker extended his recent run of form with winners at Morphettville and Sportsbet-Ballarat last weekend.
In the benchmark 70 Medallion Homes Handicap (2035m) at Morphettville on Saturday, Dangle Lad ($7) got a beautiful run under Declan Bates, camping on the heels of the leaders.
The six-year-old continued to travel well, looming large before the home turn.
Once Bates found clear galloping room, the son of Testafiable let down strongly and shot to the lead, dashing away to score by 2¼ lengths.
Dangle Lad now has six wins and seven minor placings from 29 starts, for $99,409 in stake money.
Preusker’s good luck continued the following day at Ballarat with honest campaigner Kapaulenko in the inaugural Miners Rest Community Cup (1600m).
The in-form Jordan Childs gave the six-year-old a peach of a ride in the box seat.
In the straight, Kapaulenko ($7) took time to gather momentum but once he hit top gear he was coming home hard.
In a tough performance, the Kaphero gelding took the lead in the shadows of the post to score a narrow win over Wannon Warrior.
Kapaulenko has proved a good money-spinner for his connections, earing $119,941 with six wins from 34 starts.
Horsham’s Dean Yendall also experienced success at the Ballarat meeting, booting home impressive debut winner Reilmartini ($7) in an 1100-metre maiden for Darren Weir.
