Central Victoria: Country life gets results for Luke
By Paul Egan, February 20, 2018 - 10:37 AM

Following his city double the previous weekend, Romsey/Caulfield trainer Luke Oliver saddled up a winning double at Yarra Valley last Thursday.
Oliver was successful with Wildwood Jade ($8.50) and Spleasure ($6) respectively.
Wildwood Jade, a three-year-old filly by I Am Invincible, was most impressive at her first race start in taking out the bet365 Maiden Plate (1000m).
Giving Daniel Moor his first leg of a riding double, the filly defeated $1.60 favourite Spring Choice by 3¼ lengths with Pritchett ($17) third.
Wildwood Jade was a $32,500 purchase by Oliver at the 2016 Magic Million Gold Coast yearling sale.
Spleasure, a four-year-old daughter of New Approach and Isla Canela, got up by the narrowest of margins to take out the bet365 BM58 Handicap (1500m).
The mare, ridden by apprentice Georgina Cartwright, defeated Keighran ($2.50 favourite) with Ocean Magic ($4) third.
Oliver puts his recent success down to finding the right races with some of the horses and the convenience of his newly acquired Romsey property.
“It (Romsey) has been a real asset to us, and obviously today two really good rides,” he said.
“It’s a brilliant facility at Kerrygail Farm that Phil Sly built, with lots of different tracks, water walker, swimming pool.
“All the horses get time to spend in the paddocks, and we’re getting great results.
“The step up in distance (for Spleasure) was a bit of a risk but with really good owners in the horse they were happy to try something and it worked.”
Spleasure was an $80,000 joint purchase by Luke Oliver Racing and Epona Park at the 2015 Inglis Premier yearling sale.
The mare has now won three races with one minor placing from nine starts.
Snob a bit too good
Whittlesea trainer Peter Morgan is aiming for black type with Super Snob after the filly’s impressive win at Pakenham’s Racing.com Park last Thursday.
Sent out a $1.90 favourite on the strength of a good first-up run at Moonee Valley on Australia Day at her previous start, the Toorak Toff filly was a length winner of the $27,000 Ontoit Global F&M Handicap (1400m).
Ridden by Stephen Baster, the filly defeated Spirit of Phoenix ($7.50) with Hula Star ($31)  a further 2½ lengths away third.
“She’s earnt chasing a bit of black type now as she’s won three races,” Morgan said.
The filly was bred by Rosemont Stud, which placed her in the 2016 Magic Millions Gold Coast yearling sale and was knocked down at $90,000 to Morgan, with the stud retaining a share.
Sharing the ownership are long-time stable clients Bruce and Jill Mathieson and Rick Smith, along with Terry Jackman.
Super Snob has three wins and four minor placings from her 14 starts.
In other stable news, Morgan says his Group 2 winner Sircconi will trial on March 5 in preparation for the Sydney and/or Brisbane carnivals.
The lightly raced three-year-old son of Nicconi and On Credit has only won two of his nine starts but has earned $265,200 in prizemoney.
