Wimmera: Puls helps Patch break his drought
By Josh Mackay, May 22, 2018 - 9:46 AM

Terry and Karina O’Sullivan ended a frustrating couple of months with the win of the fickle Patch Adams in last Sunday’s Casterton Foodworks Casterton Cup (2000m).
Ridden by Horsham jockey Christine Puls, the Dane Shadow gelding was a $26 outsider for the $30,000 feature.
Afforded every chance by Puls, Patch Adams settled slightly worse than midfield on the rails, loomed up before the turn and found clear galloping room once balanced for the run home.
Patch Adams really attacked the line, swooping over the top of his rivals to score a narrow but gutsy win.
It was the gelding’s first win since the Colac Cup in February 2017.  He has now earned $264,850, with four wins from 42 starts and a number of respectable efforts in strong company — notably his second to Mahuta in the 2015 Carbine Club Stakes.
The win was the Stawell-based father-and-daughter team’s first since April 1 and only their second since the start of March.
Dean delivers
Horsham-based Dean Yendall is about 20 wins off the pace set by Linda Meech in the Victorian jockeys premiership, but he’s still churning out the winners — especially when teamed with his principal patron, Darren Weir.
Weir and Yendall combined for a treble at Mildura on Monday, kicking off with three-year-old filly Escaday in a 1400-metre maiden.
The daughter of Domesday broke through at her 12th start, scoring impressively by 2¼ lengths as a $2.70 favourite.
Yendall made it a race-to-race double courtesy of Amerissa ($4.40) in a benchmark 58 over 2000 metres.
The Americain filly showed she’d inherited some of her Melbourne Cup-winning dad’s staying ability, coming with a sweeping run in the straight to get the nod on the line.
Yendall had to wait until the final event to complete his treble aboard Misty Sea ($5).
The Sebring gelding, a last-start winner at te same track, won the benchmark 58 over 1300 metres by a half length.
