SA: Back from north, Kah brings heat
By Peter Neall, August 14, 2018 - 9:12 AM

Freshened up by a working holiday weekend at the Darwin Cup carnival, Jamie Kah slipped straight back into her role as SA’s leading jockey when she landed a treble on the Parks track at Morphettville last Saturday.
Kah’s first win came courtesy of her main employer, Angaston trainer Tony McEvoy, when three-year-old Sebring sired colt Just Rolling ($3.70) finished over the top of his three rivals in the benchmark 64 Irish Race Day 1st September at Morphettville Handicap (1300m).
Now unbeaten from two starts, Just Rolling was a clear last on the home turn but ran on strongly in the straight to give McEvoy the first leg of a two-state double, completed when Regan Bayliss won on Crockett over 1400 metres at Flemington.
Having a rare ride for champion Victorian trainer Darren Weir, Kah brought up her second success when $2.45 favourite Artie Dee Two won the benchmark 82 Quayclean Handicap (1300m).
Artie Dee Two came from fifth in the six-horse field with a strong run over the concluding stages.
Joining forces with Victor Harbour horseman Jake Stephens, Kah completed a productive day in the saddle when Dollar Dollar Bill ($8) was too strong for his rivals in the benchmark 70 Welcome Archie Nunn Handicap (1950m).
The last-start Murray Bridge winner was on the pace throughout.
Temps romp
In-form apprentice Justin Huxtable chalked up his third winner for the new season when he scored by 2¼ lengths on the Chris Bieg-trained former Victorian Temps Voleur ($7.50) in the benchmark 86 UBET Handicap (1550m).
Now seven, the gelding is racing as well as ever, with three wins from five starts for Bieg.
He was previously trained at Cranbourne by Robbie Laing, for whom he scored eight wins (five of them in Adelaide) from 53 starts.
Speking of Huxtable, last weekend he was named champion rider in the South East region  for 2017/18, with Naracoorte’s Sue Jaensch taking the trainers’ award.
Brook ponders cup campaign
Oakbank horseman Barry Brook was all smiles after the win of Meli Melo ($7.50) in the benchmark 82 AAMI Handicap (2400m).
Meli Melo powered home strongly from the back under Jason Holder for his second successive win on the Parks track.
Brook said afterwards he might think about preparing Meli Melo for a tilt at next year’s Adelaide Cup (3200m) at Morphettville on March 11.
Raquel riding high
Apprentice Raquel Clark took the riding honours at Port Augusta last Sunday with a treble. Her winners were the Ken Sweeney-trained  Sheanna and Social Lane and the Brenton Jones-prepared Turfonic.
Gawler trainer Darren Magro scored a running double with Panagiota and Mystican.
