Leviathan Victorian trainer Darren Weir doubled his tally of Adelaide wins for the season with a treble at Morphettville last Saturday, led by Fiera Vista in the $100,000 listed Heineken 3 Morphettville Guineas (1600m).
The daughter of Exceed And Excel was coming off a minor placing in a Cranbourne Class 1 and started friendless (by Weir standards) at $14. She led all the way to take her record to two wins from five starts.
Fiera Vista had the services of Chris Symons, who has been a regular part of the Weir team in Adelaide recently.
Symons will be remembered by local racing fans as the rider of Adelaide Cup winner Norsqui.
Weir’s other winners at Morphettville were ridden by Dean Yendall, starting with Golden Halo in the benchmark 64 UBET Supports the NJT Handicap (heat two of the Rebel Raider Series), over 1100 metres.
Coming off a win at Donald and a sixth at Caulfield, Golden Halo ($2.20 favourite) came from last with a sustained run in the straight to win comfortably.
Weir and Yendall were again in the winner’s stall a race later when the import Royal Music ($7.50) came from midfield position to win the benchmark 70 Tindall Gask Bentley Handicap (2025m).
A couple for Kayla
Joining forces with local trainer Travis Doudle, apprentice Kayla Crowther posted the first of two winners for the weekend when she guided Star Patriot ($14) to success in the benchmark 70 LUCRF Supports the NJT Handicap (1600m) at Morphettville.
Riding for Mt Gambier trainer Jenny Gow-Whyte at Naracoorte the following day, Crowther steered Soul Fire ($1.80 favourite) to victory in a benchmark 72 over 1200 metres.
Apprentice Anna Jordsjo was the top rider at Naracoorte with a longshot double, winning on Lady Nyora ($41) and Melbourne Hero ($21).
Jollys join forces
Morphettville-based Richard Jolly has entered into a joint training partnership with daughter Chantelle, which begins on Monday. Chantelle, who’s been training since 2015, is the partner of the former Jolly apprentice Jake Toeroek.
Sairyn joins Sue
Jockey Sairyn Fawke has joined the Naracoorte stable of Sue Jaensch and can be contacted for rides on 0401 934 949.
