Western Victoria: Heath is next for Mother on a roll
By Tim Auld, May 20, 2019 - 2:57 PM

Exciting Warrnambool galloper Begood Toya Mother will be aiming for five wins on the trot when he runs in a $125,000 benchmark 84 at Caulfield on Saturday week, June 1.
Trainer Daniel Bowman said the lightly raced four-year-old had pulled up well after defeating Arancini by a length at Flemington last Saturday.
“It looks like we’ll be trying to keep the picket fence going at Caulfield,” Bowman said.
“We haven’t set any big goals with him — we’re just satisfied going through our grades.
“The win on Saturday was good as he appeared to dip at the start and overrace but full credit to (jockey) Declan (Bates), who never panicked. He’s got a great understanding of the horse.”
Begood Toya Mother now has five wins from nine starts and Bowman says he’s “given his owners a great ride”.
“One of the great things is many people from around Warrnambool are in the ownership.
“There’s a fair bit of hype about Begood Toya Mother.
“He’s developed a real following.”
Begood Toya Mother, who started a $1.60 favourite, took his stake earnings to $123,790 with his Flemington win.
Danza back
Danzadoozie made a successful return to jumps racing for Warrnambool trainer Symon Wilde with a second placing in a hurdle at Casterton last Sunday, following a long break from the sport.
The eight-year-old, ridden by champion jumps jockey Steven Pateman, was beaten by the Eric Musgrove-trained Murphy’s Delight with Fulmineus back in third place.
Wilde said Danzadoozie tired late in the race as he’d expected.
“We’re really happy with his run,” Wilde said. “He’s only had one flat run so he’s going to improve a lot of today’s effort.
“We haven’t rushed him since he injured his off-front suspensory.
“I’ve got to thank the owners — they’ve been very patient. They’ve allowed us not to rush the process.
“He’s a better ’chaser then a hurdler. We’ll probably give him one more hurdle run before switching him over to the fences.”
From his 11 jumps starts Danzadoozie has three wins and three minor placings.
Crowd a cracker
A record crowd attended last Sunday’s Casterton Cup meeting, which also featured three jumps races including a $75,000 open steeplechase.
Casterton Racing Club president Bruce Miller said interest in the day continues to grow.
“It’s been a wonderful day for the community of Casterton,” Miller said. “The whole district gets behind the day.
“We get visitors from all over the place. We had nearly 3000 on course, which is up on last year’s crowd, and we had 40 marquees, which is also a record.”
Miller thanked Racing Victoria and Country Racing Victoria for their help with course improvements and prizemoney.
He said it was the club’s ambition to run a $100,000 ’chase around the club’s picturesque steeple course, which features live hedges.
Dreaming has a future
Jumps jockey Richard Cully was full of praise for Mornington trainer Amy McDonald after the win of Tara Dreaming ($6) in a maiden hurdle at Casterton.
“Full credit to Amy and her husband Lee,” Cully said. “They do a great job with their horses.
“Tara Dreaming is still learning about the jumping caper. I think with a bit of time he could develop into a handy type of steeplechaser.”
Tara Dreaming had won one of 10 starts on the flat before his maiden hurdle victory.
Three to follow
• Harbour Views: Warrnambool gelding whose two wins from two starts have been impressive.
• Ascot Red: huge run in a steeplechase at Casterton on Sunday. He rattled home to run second at only his fifth jumps start and looks to have plenty of upside.
• Barry the Baptist: honest performer who ran second in the Casterton Cup. He’s capable of winning a similar race in coming months.
