Wimmera: Tarin riding Gregorio train
By Josh Mackay, June 19, 2019 - 6:33 AM

Edenhope trainer Johnny Tarin is on a roll courtesy of his one-horse team, San Gregorio, the six-year-old completing a double with victory at Mount Gambier last Sunday.
Having won the previous on his home track, the Musee D’Orsay gelding was lining up for his third appearance in as many weeks in Sunday’s benchmark 64 event over 2050m.
Jockey Stan Tsaikos made his intensions clear, rolling to the front and dictating terms.
San Gregorio ($7) travelled strongly and gave his rivals the slip before the turn. He continued to fight hard around the dogleg, and kept kicking to score by a length.
The victory was Sangregorio’s third in his 41-start career and took his earnings to $61,331
Zeze on top
Horsham trainer Simon Gebert returned to the winners list at the Mount Gambier meeting with Zeze Ulater ($8.50).
With Kayla Crowther in the saddle in a benchmark 56 over 1200 metres, the veteran mare settled off the pace and enjoyed a soft run in transit.
The daughter of Rakti got clear galloping room before the home turn and commenced her run. At the dogleg Zeze Ulater surged to the front proving a length and a half too strong.
Gone too strong
Another Horsham trainer, Stephen Lenehan was another Wimmera winner this week, taking a 1200-metre benchmark 58 on the synthetic track at Sportsbet-Ballarat on Tuesday with I’ll Be Gone ($7.50).
The Dr Doute’s four-year-old overcame a tardy start to swoop to the lead in the straight under Harry Coffey, winning by a length.
