Western Victoria: Break beckons for Bowman's boy
By Tim Auld, July 16, 2019 - 10:00 AM

Trainer Daniel Bowman says lightly raced staying prospect Nashville Sound is likely to head to the spelling paddock following his third placing in a $50,000 benchmark 78 at Bendigo last Sunday.
The Donchess and Meteor Light filled the quinella in the 2200-metre race.
“Nashville Sound just didn’t hit the line how I would have liked,” Bowman said.
“He ran all right, but he didn’t let down as strongly as I thought he might have at the end of the race.
“The Donchess and Meteor Light had a significant weight advantage so his effort was still full of merit but I think after a break he’ll come back a lot stronger.
“He’s had a very good campaign and looks to have a bright future.”
From 12 starts Nashville Sound has three wins, five minor placings and $81,530.
The four-year-old had seven starts in his autumn/winter campaign for two wins, a second, a third and three fifths.
Meanwhile, Bowman is undecided on the way forward for Golden Halo after her unplaced run at Caulfield last Saturday.
Golden Halo finished fourth, less than two lengths from winner Gododdin, in a three-year-old fillies race.
“There seemed to be a bit of a track bias,” he said. “You had to be on the speed and that’s not her style of racing.
“I’m just weighing up my options — there’s a race on Saturday week which may suit but I’ll be guided by how she pulls up.
“The track was pretty heavy on Saturday so we’ll just see if that run has taken a lot out of her before making any future plans.”
Golden Halo has won three of 12 starts, earning $123,950.
Donnelly passes baton
John Donnelly is ready to hand over the role of Coleraine Racing Club secretary after 13 years in the part-time post.
The new secretary will be in place for the start of the new season on August 1.
Coleraine, which previously held one meeting a year, will stage two meetings in each of the next three seasons.
In 2019/20 Coleraine races on August 18 and September 22.
Donnelly will continue in his other administrative roles, as secretary at Casterton and racing operations manager at Hamilton.
“I just think it was the right time to get some fresh blood into the job at Coleraine,” he said.
90 up
Former long-serving Terang Racing Club president John Conheady celebrated a significant milestone on Sunday. Conheady enjoyed the company of family and friends for his 90th birthday.
