Wimmera: Country cups on Arty's agenda
By Josh Mackay, August 14, 2019 - 5:51 AM

Horsham trainer Paul Preusker looks to have the ammo for another strong season, and lightly raced five-year-old Arty Lucas got the ball rolling with a win at last Saturday’s Murray Bridge metro meeting.
Ridden by Lewis German in the 2000-metre benchmark 70, the $2.60 favourite camped behind the leader and looked the one to beat a long way from home.
The son of Lucas Cranach took over in the straight and kicked clear to win by a length, taking his record to 13 starts for three wins, five minor placings and $94,630.
Arty Lucas gives the impression that he could develop into a handy country-cups horse in the upcoming spring.
Business as usual
Horsham jockey Dean Yendall averaged a couple of winners a week over the 2018/19 season and has started the new term in similar style.
Yendall notched four winners in the first fortnight of 2019/20, most recently Magnus Equus ($10) for Warrnambool trainer Symon Wilde on the Ballarat synthetic on Tuesday.
Magnus Equus won a 1400-metre maiden at his second start since transferring from the Sale stable of Mario Farrugia.
Two days earlier Yendall scored on the Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra-trained Chivargo ($3.60) in a 1300-metre maiden on a heavy 9 at Bendigo.
