Wimmera: Music back on song
By Josh Mackay, September 18, 2019 - 6:56 AM

Wimmera-owned mare Mosh Music returned to form at Flemington last Saturday with a win in the Vale Russell Cameron Handicap over 1700 metres.
Trained by Archie Alexander and ridden by Jye McNeil, Mosh Music ($12) settled in the second half of the field with cover, and got a nice run behind the early speed.
Approaching the 500-metre mark the daughter of Moshe eased out into clear galloping room and came home with a wet sail, sweeping past Royal Ace to dash to the front. The five-year-old stargazed once in the lead, but got home by three-quarters of a length.
The win was Mosh Music’s seventh from 10 starts, and her fifth at metropolitan level for earnings of $275,050. She was coming off a defeat first up over an unsuitably short 1519 metres.
Mosh Music was bred by Alexander Racing’s foreman, former Horsham trainer Greg Baker, who races the mare in partnership with family and some of his former clients.
The day ended on a sour note for McNeil, who copped an eight-meeting suspension for his ride. That, coupled with a previously incurred ban, will see him sidelined for 15 meetings in total.
Arty again
Also last Saturday, Horsham trainer Paul Preusker extended his winning streak over the SA border with emerging stayer Arty Lucas.
Coming off wins at Murray Bridge and Morphettville, the five-year-old was going for the hat-trick in the Roadside Service Solutions Benchmark 80 Handicap (2000m), again at Morphettville.
Ridden again by apprentice Lewis German, Arty Lucas ($1.50 favourite) raced very keenly in the early stages, causing punters a few nervous moments, and raced wide without cover for the entire event.
Once balanced, Arty Lucas had to survive a late charge from the John Hickmott-trained Flow Meter to score by a nose.
Arty Lucas looks to have a lucrative spring ahead, with a number of country cups appearing suitable.
Just too good
Telopea Downs trainer Darryl Dodson produced a handy debut winner in Just Chipping Away over 900 metres at Mount Gambier last Sunday.
Ridden by Justin Potter, the five-year-old Red Arrow mare showed plenty of speed in scoring impressively by 3½ lengths.
Just Chipping Away should prove hard to beat again next time she steps out around the Limestone Coast region.
