SA: Lachie on a roll
By Peter Neall, March 31, 2020 - 9:04 AM

An outstanding second season continued for apprentice Lachlan Neindorf with a double on the Parks track at Morphettville last Saturday.
Riding for the Peter Jolly stable, Neindorf landed his first success when Yule My Hero ($26) opened his winning account in the two-year-old handicap over 1000 metres.
Riding with poise, Neindorf had Yule My Hero in the lead soon after the start and controlled the race. The Kaphero gelding was having his third start and was coming off a first-up sixth at the same track two weeks earlier.
Joining forces with Victorian co-trainers Ciaron Maher and David Eustace, Neindorf brought up his second winner when Grand Crown ($4) came from worse than midfield to win a benchmark 78 over 1950 metres.
Neindorf made it three wins for the weekend when Space Equity landed some good bets ($7-$4.80) winning a benchmark 58 for local trainer Lindsay Cadzow at Bordertown last Sunday.
The win took Neindorf’s season tally to 68 wins at a strike rate of 15 per cent. He started riding late last season.
Intrigue worth following
The father-son training combo of Tony and Calvin McEvoy are hopeful that three-year-old Deep Field filly Intrigue will do them proud during the Adelaide Festival of Racing in May after her win in last Saturday’s 1300-metre maiden plate.
With Jason Holder aboard, Intrigue started a $2.70 second favourite on the back of minor placings at Mornington, Moonee Valley and Morphettville to begin her career.
She led all the way for a comfortable 1½-length win over Phillip Stokes-trained $2.50 favourite Skilled Wizard.
Holder said the Qatar Bloodstock-owned Intrigue had plenty of talent and was unlucky not have won a race before Saturday.
The McEvoys went on to complete a double when Jake Toeroek brought Game Keeper ($13) from worse than midfield for a first-up benchmark 64 win over 1250 metres.
Joy for the Jones girl
Riding for her co-masters Richard and Chantelle Jolly, apprentice Caitlin Jones rode her first city winner since returning to the saddle following a break when Hypercane ($9.50) came from the rear of the field to win a benchmark 68 over 1250 metres at the Parks meeting.
Jones returned to the saddle on March 18 at Gawler, scoring her first winner back at Naracoorte the following day.
Last Saturday’s win was her first in town since July 10 last year.
Border braces
Trainer Denis O’Leary and jockeys Dom Tourneur and Paul Gatt were the stars of Sunday’s Bordertown fixture with doubles.
O’Leary and Tourneur combined with the first two winners, Justa Jillaroo and Sentry Gate, while Gatt scored on the Peter F. Blanch-prepared Azzureous and the Sue Jaensch-trained Al Ma Belle.
Welcome back, Caboche
Popular apprentice Dylan Caboche has returned to Adelaide, where he will be under the guidance of Morphettville trainer Chris Bieg.
Oakbank off
The COVID-19 outbreak has played havoc with the SA racing schedule, most notably resulting in the cancellation of the Oakbank carnival.
The carnival was to kick off this Sunday but that meeting has been cancelled. The meeting this coming Wednesday (April 8) has been transferred to Murray Bridge while the Easter Saturday (April 11) meeting will be at Morphettville. Additionally, the Port Augusta meeting on Sunday April 19 has been transferred to Gawler.
