Central Victoria: Butch, Goodrich the punters' pals
By Paul Egan, March 31, 2020 - 10:22 AM

Seymour trainers David “Butch” Bourne and Kate Goodrich travelled up the Hume Highway to Wodonga last Saturday and came home winners.
Bourne and Goodrich were successful with the well backed Curly Burgin ($11-$7.50) and Too Hard to Handle ($3.60-$2.90 favourite) respectively.
Curly Burgin, a three-year-old son of Lucas Cranach and Capacitor, was most impressive in taking out the Baxters Concrete Maiden Plate (1300m).
Ridden by district-based hoop Jason Baldock, the colt defeated Rip City ($5) by 1¼ lengths with $1.95 favourite Dance Ready a further 2¼ lengths away third.
Curly Burgin was an $11,000 purchase by Bourne at the 2017 Inglis Great Southern weanling sale. He races Curly Burgin in partnership with stable clients including Seymour Racing Club committeeman Gerard O’Sullivan and his wife, Sandra.
Having only his second race start, the colt has already knocked off his purchase price by earning $13,225 in prizemoney.
In the previous race, Baldock went close to make it two wins for the day when flying home aboard the Erin Maher-trained $151 pop  Sly Sloth to finish runner-up to the David O’Prey-trained Tory Marguerite ($5.50).
Too Hard To Handle, a five-year-old gelding by Hard Spun from Littlemissattitude, got the judge’s nod in a blanket finish to the last race, the Albury Wodonga RV World 0-58 Handicap (1100m).
Giving apprentice Lachlan King two wins for the day, the gelding defeated the Jody Thompson-trained Imperial King ($14) by a half-head, with Arctic Star ($8) a short half-head away third. The win was the gelding’s first since his maiden victory on the Geelong synthetic in June 2018.
Raced by the trainer in partnership with her partner, Jon Hassall, and other stable clients, Too Hard To Handle has those two wins and six minor placings from his 17 starts.
The younger half-brother Too Dark To Handle (by Domesday), bred and raced in the same interests, ran a creditable race earlier on the program, finishing midfield after having to cover ground from barrier 11.
