SA: Leaders dominate midweek

A ding-dong struggle at the top of the Adelaide jockeys’ premeriship continued when Todd Pannell, Jason Holder and Jessica Eaton rode doubles at Morphettville on Wednesday.
Eaton and Pannell remain tied at the top of the ladder on 22 wins, with Holder three back in third place.
Pannell was the first to strike on Wednesday when Peloton ($1.70 favourite) won the opening benchmark 82 over 1550 metres for trainer Michael Hickmott. His second winner, Confusion ($8) came from the Warrnambool stable of Matthew Williams and took out a 1950-metre benchmark 68.
Holder brought up the first leg of his double when he joined forces with co-trainers Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas in the win of Winning Weather ($1.95 favourite) in a Class 2 over 1250 metres.  Holder’s other winner was the Ryan Balfour-prepared Li’l Kontra ($2.10) in a 1000-metre benchmark 82.  
Eaton landed the first leg of a running double when Heir of Tavistock ($6.50) took out a 1550-metre benchmark 64 for Richard Wilson.  
Eaton completed her double when the John Hickmott-trained Little Rich Boy ($11) took out a 1000-metre benchmark 64 handicap, giving the Hickmott son and father the bookends for the day. 
A couple for Claudia
Jockey Claudia Lions took the riding honours at Naracoorte on Tuesday with a double, winning on Sir Coen ($51) for Roslyn Day and Gigglon for Sue and Jason Jaensch.
The country action heads to Strathalbyn on Sunday for its popular Vignerons’ Cup (1350m).
Cash boost welcomed
Thoroughbred Racing SA has announced an increase in prizemoney for metropolitan, provincial and country racing.
Beginning on December 1, metropolitan prizemoney will range from $37,250 for maiden races to $52,250 for main Saturday events.   
The SA Breeders and Owners’ Incentive Scheme, SABOIS, has increased its bonus pool by 43 per cent, with new qualification categories related to weanlings, yearlings and the Adelaide Cup carnival.
One incentive is a $5000 non-transferable 2021 Magic Millions sale voucher for the first SABOIS-qualified horse past the post in races on the Saturday prior to the Adelaide Cup and on the day itself.
SA Thoroughbred Breeders chair Sam Hayes has welcomed the announcements, saying: “It’s fantastic news for the industry.”
