SA: Treble sends Kayla to equal top

Kayla Crowther joined apprentice Rochelle Milnes at the top of the Adelaide jockeys’ premiership with a treble at Morphettville last Saturday.
Crowther finished her day on 13 Adelaide wins for the season, level with Milnes and four clear of Jake Toeroek and Lachlan Neindorf.
Crowther opened her account last Saturday when Obi ($19) ran on from the back half of the field to score in 0-64 grade over 1600 metres.
Trained at Murray Bridge by Sarah Rutten, Obi was breaking an 810-day drought. His previous win had come at Balaklava in August 2022, in the care of Travis Doudle.
The four-year-old mare Pure Bliss ($6) provided Crowther with the middle pin of her treble in a Class 2 handicap over 1050 metres.
First up from a spell for Will Clarken and Niki O’Shea, Pure Bliss came from midfield to score by a length and three-quarters.
Crowther’s third winner was Plus Fours ($41), who led all the way in 0-72 company over 1200 metres for Phillp Stokes.
Rochelle rolls on
Leading apprentice Rochelle Milnes had a productive weekend, with a win at Morphettville to retain a share of the premiership lead and a double at Port Lincoln on Sunday.
Her Morphettville win came via the John Hyam-trained Dolcemente ($3 favourite), came from midfield to win a one-metro-win affair over 1800 metres, while both her Port Lincoln winners were trained by her co-masters, John Dunn and Krystal Bishop.
Their winners were Mount Madeira ($13) in a benchmark 62 over 1350 metres and Messerschmitt ($8.50) in a 1000-metre benchmark 72.
Sairyn Fawke shared the riding honours with Milnes, guiding Andamooka ($3.40) to victory in a 1210-metre maiden for local trainer Trent Allen and taking a 1750-metre benchmark 66 on Django Express ($12) for Port Augusta-based Brendon Davis.
Buddha too good at Gawler
Murray Bridge trainer Grant Young was all smiles when Bamyan Buddha ($15) took out last Friday’s $107,250 Gawler Cup (1500m).
Coming from behind the pace and taking over soon after the home turn, the six-year-old hung on to give apprentice Margaret Collett one of the most important wins of her career.
Angaston co-trainers Aaron Bain and Ned Taylor combined with Jason Holder for a double at the Gawler meeting. Their winners were Dubai Focus ($1.60 favourite) in a 1500-metre maiden and Esky ($4.40) in a 1700-metre benchmark 56.

Lai on a high
Apprentice Alan Lai took the points with a bookend double at Balaklava on Wednesday.
Teaming with Port Augusta trainer Waylon Hornhardt, the three-kilo claimer took the first, a Class 1 plate over 2200 metres, on Cuban Lord ($3), then finished his day with a win on the Bill Bogarts-prepared Snipers Nightmare ($19) in a benchmark 56 of 1400 metres.
