Goldfields: Dandruff sticks on, Jericho's the go

Bendigo trainer Toby Lake has his sights set on next month’s Jericho Cup after his tough stayer Dandruff’s impressive win at Swan Hill on Tuesday.
Leading all the way in the 2400-metre benchmark 58 race, rider Dakotah Keane quickened the tempo from the 800-metre mark and the horse extended to put his rivals under pressure early.
The six-year-old got further in front in the straight, with the margin on the line 4¾ lengths.
“He maintains, he doesn’t quicken. He’s got a lot of (staying) upside,” Keane said.
Assistant trainer Jacob Rule confirmed the Jericho target for the horse post-race.
“He’s a pretty slow horse but he can sustain a good, strong run. He can really stick on,” Rule said.
“The plan is to go to the Jericho or the consolation.”
Despite being by Written Tycoon, a stallion more renowned for sprinting horses, Dandruff looks like he’ll stay all day and the 4600 metres of the Jericho Cup (or 4065 metres for the consolation) looks right up his alley.
The Jericho Cup will be run on Sunday December 1 at Warrnambool.

Harry’s King in cup coup
The Europeans broke a seven-year drought when the Harry Eustace-trained Sea King ($5.50) proved far too strong in the Group 3 Apiam Bendigo Cup on Wednesday.
The horse is the third raider to take the cup, following Francis of Assisi (2016) and Qewy (2017), both trained by Charlie Appleby.
Declan Bates made his move early and the six-year-old gelding produced a sustained display of stamina.
On the line Sea King held a winning margin of 3¾ lengths. with Berkeley Square ($6) and Star Vega ($12) filling the minor placings.
The Sea The Stars gelding came into the race off a sixth placing in the Ebor Handicap at York (UK), one spot ahead of subsequent Geelong Cup winner Onesmoothoperator.
Sea King has now likely secured entry into the Melbourne Cup field and has rocketed up to the pointy end of the betting market.
