Bendigo trainer Toby Lake looks to have a promising young horse on his hands after Fieldelo made a winning debut over 1100 metres at Kilmore last Sunday.
The three-year-old Deep Field filly had shown ability at the jumpouts and punters latched on, sending her out a $2.60 favourite despite the lack of race experience.
Jockey Jye McNeil gave the filly a beautiful run in transit, and she loomed into the race strongly. Fieldelo and the Phillip Stokes-trained Sweethearted ($2.90) made it a two-horse race, with Lake’s charge proving a shade stronger in the concluding stages.
There was some substance to the performance as it was nearly five lengths further back to the third-placed horse.
Lake will not be rushing with the promising filly and is sending her to the spelling paddock after that debut win.
She was a $100,000 purchase at the 2023 Inglis Premier yearling sale and looks like she’ll turn out to be a good investment for her connections.
Fieldelo will be one to follow in 2025 and Lake will have loftier goals for the horse as she improves and matures into her next racing preparation.
