SA: Double, dux and treble: what a week
By Peter Neall, February 3, 2025 - 7:52 PM

Fresh from being named dux of the SA Apprentice Academy on the Thursday night, Rochelle Milnes capped off an excellent week when she landed three on the Morphettville Parks track last Saturday.
The treble was the icing on the cake of an action-packed week for Milnes, beginning on the Monday when she drove a two-horse float from Port Lincoln to the Oakbank stables of her co-masters, John Dunn and Krystal Bishop.
Two winners at the Morphettville Parks midweeker followed, then last Saturday’s treble, which took her to 27 Adelaide winners for the season, three clear of Lachlan Neindorf at the top of the jockeys’ table.
Milnes opened her account last Saturday when Tahnee Treasure ($3.90) ran on from midfield to win a benchmark 72 handicap over 1400 metres for Murray Bridge trainer Peter Hardacre.
Milnes’s second winner was the promising four-year-old mare and last-start winner Pure Bliss ($3.50 favourite), who led all the way in a 1000-metre benchmark 70 for Sellicks Hill co-trainers Will Clarken and Niki O’Shea.
Milnes completed her treble, and a double for Morphettville trainer Travis Doudle, when Shisuta Bo ($4) won a 1250-metre 0-66 handicap for fillies and mares.
Doudle had earlier saddled up first-starter Flaming Navy ($14) to win a three-year-old maiden plate over 1400 metres.
A son of US Navy Flag, Flaming Navy led all the way under Ben Price.
Reims in Guru’s sights
Rising stayer Gotta Go Guru completed a hat-trick with victory in a benchmark 76 over 2250 metres at the Parks meeting for trainer Andrew Gluyas.
With Jason Holder aboard Gotta Go Guru ($1.95 favourite) was always handy to the lead and went on to score comfortably by a length and a half.
The Fiorente mare is likely to tackle the Group 3 Lord Reims Stakes (2600m) at Morphettville on February 22.
The win capped a big week for the mare’s breeder and part-owner Harry Perks, who received the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the Australia Day honours.
Future perfect
In-form Murray Bridge trainer Stephen Theodore got an early wedding present when apprentice Matthew Chadwick guided Fine Future ($3.10 favourite) from midfield to win a handicap in 0-66 company over 1250 metres at the Parks meeting.
Theodore will marry Molly Murphy on Friday.
Two for Teagan
Jockey Teagan Voorham and trainer Richard Wilson combined for a running double at Mount Gambier last Sunday, winning with Burnt by Bernie ($3.90) in a benchmark 54 over 1200 metres then Load And Go ($7.50) in a benchmark 66 over the same trip.
Juniors share spoils
Apprentices Tala Hutchinson and Sophie Mtchell notched three winners each to dominate the six-race Ceduna Cup non-TAB card last Saturday.
Hutchinson’s winners were all for Murray Bridge trainer Garret Lynch — Dellean ($2.20 favourite) in a 1000-metre maiden plate, Bonjour ($3) in a benchmark 52 over 1200 metres and Lunar Solar ($3.40) in a 1300-metre benchmark 64.
Mitchell’s highlight was the win of the Waylon Hornhardt-trained Hey Michael ($5.50) in the 1600-metre Ceduna Cup. Her othger two winners were for local trainer Megan Gillespie — McKeever ($2.50) in a 1000-metre benchmark 58 and Diamonds Are ($1.80 favourite) in a 1600-metre benchmark 52.

Brace for Ben
Jockey Ben Price took the points with a double at Murray Bridge on Wednesday, winning a 1400-metre maiden plate for local trainer Stuart Padman on The Back Page ($8.50) and a rating 56 over 1800 metres for Geelong trainer Kelvin Bourke on Laybuy ($15).
Better with age
Well done to winemaker, breeder and owner Wolf Blass on being recognised with the Matrice Award by SA Breeders last Saturday night.
