It was a day of doubles at Devonport on Monday with trainers John Blacker and Glenn Stevenson sharing the honours along with hoops Jackson Radley and Codi Jordan.
Radley was first on the board, giving the Monica Ryan-prepared Ellisphere a gun trail just behind the leaders before taking the maiden plate over 1150 metres.
The win provided Ryan with some joy in a time of grief after she lost her mother, Mary (wife of former trainer Bill), last week.
Radley completed his double aboard his master Blacker’s charge Al Maximus, who came from midfield to take the maiden/Class 1 plate over 1880 metres.
The gelded son of Al Maher was having just his fourth run for Blacker, having previously been in the care of Tanya Hanson and Kyle Maskiell, who also lost their mother/grandmother, Helen Hanson (wife of former trainer Ken), last week.
Both family matriarchs have races named in their honour at Launceston on Friday night.
Blacker’s second success came via honest War gelding Warica, who handled a five-day back up in fine style to notch a deserved win in the benchmark 60 handicap over 1009 metres under Lauryn Bingley.
Stevenson and Jordan combined for both their wins, kicking off with Agnete, who settled midfield before looming large on the home turn and proving too strong in the Class 3 handicap over 1350 metres.
The pair completed their brace of wins with Es And Es. The Sepoy-Spry gelding tracked the leader, Punter, throughout before gaining the upper hand in the drive to the line in the benchmark 64 handicap over 1880 metres.
