Honours were shared at Launceston’s Good Friday meeting with Jackson Radley, Anthony Darmanin and Jabez Johnstone each booting home a pair of winners.
Both Radley’s wins came for his master, John Blacker. First was Mateus, who was always travelling kindly before scoring a comfortable 2¾-length win in the day’s opener, a maiden/Class 1 plate over 2150 metres.
Blacker and Radley completed their double with Ralph The Rocket, who box-seated before wearing down leader I’m Keefe in the concluding stages of the Class 2 handicap over 1620 metres.
Darmanin opened his account on the Stuart Gandy-trained Fluffy’s Girl, who was untroubled leading throughout in the Class 1 handicap over 1220 metres.
Tassie’s reigning hoop of the year completed his brace aboard the Glenn Stevenson-prepared Dayan Star, who launched from the back for a narrow victory in the benchmark 64 handicap over 1420 metres.
Johnstone notched his double in the final two events on the card, first providing Stevenson with a double by guiding stable star First Accused to a narrow win in the day’s feature, a $36,000 open handicap over 1420 metres.
The 3kg claimer then combined with Sarah Cotton to take the Class 6 handicap over 1120 metres with promising sprinter In The Ocean, who proved too tough despite facing the breeze throughout.
Darmanin followed up with another pair of winners at Devonport on Easter Monday, kicking off with Trent Wells’s heavily backed ex-Victorian Platinum Reggae ($3.90-$1.95), who cleared maiden ranks over 1009 metres at his second local outing.
Darmanin later combined with Stevenson again to take the Class 2 handicap over 1350 metres with Spring Bean, who box-seated before scoring a comfortable two-length win.
The Spill The Beans gelding was also well found by punters, firming from $4.60 to start the $3.60 favourite.
