SA: Neindorf pulls orf a classic coup
By Peter Neall, May 5, 2025 - 9:17 PM

Still regarded as one of the young guns of SA racing, Lachlan Neindorf produced one of the best rides of his career to steer Femminile to an upset win in the Group 1 South Australian Derby over 2500 metres at Morphettville last Saturday.
Trained by Phillip Stokes, the Dundeel filly came from near last with a rails run to beat $3.40 favourite Statuario by three-quarters of a length.
Femminile had been unplaced at the first three runs of her campaign and was coming off a seventh in the Group 1 Australasian Oaks, but had some support on the day, backed from $31 to $19.
Speaking afterwards, assistant trainer Tommy Stokes said the win was a triumph for both the Pakenham and Morphettville stables.
Brace for Bieg
Morphettville trainer Chris Bieg struck a blow for the locals when he landed a double on the second day of the Adelaide autumn carnival.
Bieg brought up his first success when Voltage Point ($13) took out the benchmark 64 handicap over 1050 metres.
First up after a spell and well handled by the in-form apprentice Felicity Atkinson, Voltage Point ran on from midfield for a thre-quarter-length win.
Bieg completed his double with Annihilate ($12) in the Adelaide in Autumn Series Final over 1600 metres under Liam Riordan.
Yes, King
Sir Kingsford proved the punter’s friend when he won the listed Port Adelaide Cup (2500m) as a $3.10 favourite, completing a hat-trick after wins in a benchmark 80 on the Parks track and in the 2150-metre Onkaparinga Cup at Oakbank’s Easter carnival.
Sir Kingsford is prepared by the Gawler training trio of Gary and Nichole Searle and their daughter Brianna Callanan and was again ridden by Teagan Voorham, who has been aboard for all three recent wins.
Sir Kingsford led all the way last Saturday and has earned a good rest ahead of being prepared for a first-up tilt at the listed Balaklava Cup over 1600 metres in September. He ran fourth in that race under Voorham in 2024, when second up.
Depending on his handicap rating later in the year, Sir Kingsford may also be nominated for some of the Victorian country cups through the spring.
Dashing display
Cranbourne-based Mick Price and Michael Kent junior kept up their good recent Adelaide strike rate when On Display ($3) won the listed Adelaide Guineas 1600 metres.
Having services of Ben Melham, On Display settled in a rearward position but quickly made up ground before coming widest on the home turn then sprinting away to score by more than two lengths.
Price and Kent have had six runners for three winners at the carnival so far.
Top team
Trainer Sarah Rutten and jockey Caitlin Jones took the points at Bordertown last Friday, combining for a treble.
Their winners were Comic Spy ($3.10 favourite) in a 1200-metre maiden plate, Miss Kermie ($11) in a benchmark 66 handicap over 1100 metres and Head Of The Herd ($3.50) in a 1550-metre benchmark 60.
