South Australian racing fans could be in for a thrilling finish to the Adelaide jockeys premiership, with just four wins separating leader Rochelle Milnes from fellow apprentice Taylor Johnstone and senior jockey Lachlan Neindorf after a double for Neindorf at Murray Bridge last Saturday.
Getting straight down to business, Neindorf saluted the judge in the first, a benchmark 66 for two-year-olds over 1000 metres, on heavily backed first-starter Ferivia ($1.90 favourite).
The first leg of a double for trainer Phillip Stokes, the Astern filly showed enough speed to lead all the way.
The Neindorf/Stokes combination completed their double when Noetzie ($3.50) won the benchmark 66 for three-year-olds over the same trip.
Both Ferivia and Noetzie will represent the Stokes stable in the listed Lightning Stakes for two- and three-year-olds over 1050 metres at Morphettville on Saturday week.
Welcome back, Livesey
Riding at her first Saturday meeting since recovering from a broken hand sustained in a race fall at Port Lincoln in March, apprentice Alana Livesey reintroduced herself to punters in the best way possible with a double.
Riding for her co-masters, Gordon Richards and Damien Moyle, Livesey brought up her first win when Harley’n’rose ($9.50) came from midfield to win in 0-64 grade of 1800 metres.
Livesey’s second winner was Headphones ($16) in a benchmark 68 for fillies and mares over 1400 metres.
Prepared on the Murray Bridge track by Judy Streets, Headphones came from midfield to score by a nose over the Jake Stephens-trained Tropical House ($4.60).
A couple for Kelly
Apprentice Alana Kelly was the other rider to notch a double at the Bridge, kicking off with Fast Bubbes ($12) in a benchmark 74 handicap over 1200 metres.
Trained at Strathalbyn by Wayne Francis and Glen Kent and part-owned by racecaller Tim Edwards, Fast Bubbles settled in a midfield position before surging to record a narrow but strong win over the Cody Reardon-trained Three Rings.
Kelly’s second winner was seven-year-old gelding Classy Kenny ($20) in a 1400-metre benchmark 68.
Garret grabs two
Murray Bridge trainer Garret Lynch took the points on a heavy 10 surface at Mount Gambier last Friday with a double, scoring with Flying Assassin ($3.90 favourite) and Alainge ($4). Alyssa Webb and Sairyn Fawke were the respective winning riders.
