Tasmania: Four-timers a PB for Jessie, Jabez
By Adam Williams, July 24, 2025 - 9:11 AM

Brighton trainer Jessie Bazan and highly promising apprentice Jabez Johnstone celebrated career-best days at Hobart last Sunday, each securing a quartet of victories.
Bazan’s four winners came in successive races, kicking off in race three with former Victorian Rawabi, who was untroubled leading throughout under Bulent Muhcu to clear maiden ranks over 1200 metres at just his second local appearance.
Bazan combined with Johnstone for her next two winners, led by recent stable addition Jehbenti, who finished off hard from worse than midfield to take the benchmark 60 handicap over 1100 metres.
The former Gary White and Stuart Gandy rep has now had three starts for the new yard for a second and two wins.
Bazan and Johnstone were next successful with smart filly Silver Dagger, who came from midfield for a soft win in the three-year-old handicap over the same trip.
The daughter of D’argento has now easily won both runs back from a break and will back up at the same track this Sunday when she tackles a hot open handicap over 1400 metres against stakes performers Turk Warrior, Thespian Waters and Alvarinho.
Bazan’s final win came via another promising filly, Snow Eagle, who finished off strongly from midfield under Muhcu to take the Class 1 handicap over 1400 metres first up from a four-month break.
The daughter of Alpine Eagle scored over the same route to kick off her previous prep before being placed in the Strutt Stakes and she looks a nice stayer in the making.
Johnstone made it three wins for the day when leading from go to whoa aboard the Julie Richards-trained Flying Bille in the benchmark 68 handicap over the same route.
The former John Keys representative has been going great guns for the new stable, saluting at four of his six appearances.
Johnstone then completed a second running double on the Sarah Cotton-prepared The Last Hurrah, who was untroubled leading throughout after crossing from the outside alley in the Class 2 handicap over 1100 metres.
