David Jolly and Justin Potter notched the first metropolitan win of their training partnership with four-year-old mare Nextonixs on the Morphettville Parks track last Saturday.
Nextonixs ($8.50) led all the way resuming in 0-66 company over 1000 metres to give reigning Adelaide premier jockey Rochelle Milnes the first leg of a double.
Nextonixs, a $6000 purchase (hence her name) at the Inglis Gold sale in 2023, now has three wins and $95,680 in earnings from five starts in a 0 -66 handicap which was run over 1000 metres.
By Tassort (sire of Manaal) from a Brisbane sprint winner, Nextonixs now also has appeal as a broodmare prospect.
The talented Milnes scored the second leg of her double when Hot Strut ($4) also led all the way in a Class 2 over 1400 metres for Murray Bridge co-trainers Ron Daniels and Trish Stansbury.
The mare’s next mission is likely to be the listed Balaklava Cup (1600m) on September 10.
Tight at the top
Milnes’s double has her in a three-way tie on four wins at the top of this season’s Adelaide premiership with Jason Holder and Jake Toeroek, who also rode doubles at the Parks meeting.
Holder started his day off on the right note when four-year-old mare Lottie Jane ($3.10 favourite) came from midfield to win a 1000-metre maiden for local trainer Mark Lewis.
Holder completed his double when last-start winner Goliotus ($5) ran on from worse than midfield to win a benchmark 76 handicap over 2250 metres for Mount Gambier’s Ricky Bruhn.
Jake Toeroek opened his account riding for his main employers, Richard and Chantelle Jolly, swooping from last to win a 1000-metre benchmark 78 on the resuming Karavas ($6.50).
Toeroek was in the winner’s stall a second time when Welcometotheshow ($4.80) came from last score in 0-62 grade over 1250 metres, providing Ballarat trainer Tyler Donaldson-Aitken with his first metropolitan winner.
Quorn quartet for Garret
Murray Bridge trainer Garret Lynch continued his good run at the non-TABs with four winners on the six-race card at Quorn last Saturday — two ridden by apprentice Alysha Warren and two by senior jockey Sairyn Fawke.
The highlight was the win of Jamrock ($15) in the 1900-metre Quorn Cup under Warren. Her other winner was Dylan’s Lad ($8) in a benchmark 60 over 1400 metres.
Fawke and Lynch combined in the wins of Riched ($2.50 favourite) in a benchmark 58 over 1200 metres and Archdeacon ($17) in 0-52 grade over 1400 metres.
Lynch had taken the Roxby Downs Cup a fortnight earlier with Doctor Robert.
