Torrential rain saw the last two races on the card at Devonport last Sunday abandoned due to poor visibility but not befoe Erica Byrne Burke and Anthony Darmanin had notched a double apiece in the six earlier events.
Byrne Burke rode the first two winners, kicking off with the Imogen Miller-trained Blonde Star, who settled handy before proving too strong in the benchmark 68 handicap over 1880 metres.
It was the Starcraft mare’s first try over a middle distance and given the strength of the victory she may get even further.
Byrne Burke then combined with her former master Adam Trinder to take maiden plate over 1150 metres with the heavily backed favourite Prince Of Khatun ($2-$1.30).
The gelded son of Stratosphere jumped straight to the front and the result was never in doubt, the lightly raced three-year-old cruising to a soft 2¼-length victory.
Darmanin opened his account on the Mark Ganderton-prepared Adachi, who led throughout in the Class 4 handicap over 1350 metres.
The dual Tasmanian premiership-winning hoop then made it a running double aboard the John Luttrell-trained Zoete’s Rock, who finished off hard from midfield to take the Class 2 handicap over 1150 metres.
The gelded son of Impending is developing a strong record on the Devonport synthetic, having now notched three wins and two placings from seven attempts there.
