Tasmania: Another mighty run from Mistruth
By Adam Williams, November 6, 2025 - 9:10 AM

Tassie’s top mare Geegees Mistruth ran another cracking race at Flemington last Saturday when runner-up in the Group 3 G.H. Mumm Rising Fast Stakes over 1200 metres.
Now in the care of Cranbourne trainer Mark Walker, the daughter of Wordsmith settled midfield under Craig Williams and finished off hard but couldn’t wear down smart Sydney gelding Caballus, who raced on pace throughout.
Those two gallopers were well clear of the rest of the field and surely Geegees Mistruth will be notching an elusive interstate stakes win in the near future.
Her younger full sister, Geegees Missile, also impressed at Hobart’s Melbourne Cup day meeting when taking the Class 4 handicap over 1000 metres.
The Stuart Gandy-trained filly jumped straight to the front under Shogo Nakano and the result was never in doubt as she cruised to her fourth consecutive win this time in.
The promising filly will now head to the 3YO Cup later this month, where she will clash with promising stablemate Crack The Shutters.
Her win provided Gandy with a running double as he’d earlier taken the benchmark 60 handicap over 2020 metres with Don’t Give Up, who also led from go to whoa under Chloe Wells.
It was Wells’s first meet since returning home from a three-month stint in Queensland with Rob Heathcote and she also went on to complete a double, winning on the John Keys-prepared Restricted Access, who proved too nippy for his rivals in the benchmark 60 handicap over 1200 metres.
John Blacker shared training honours with Gandy, his brace of wins headed by Celestial Glow, who enjoyed a nice trail just off the speed under Bulent Muhcu before clearing maiden ranks over 1000 metres third up from a break.
The state’s leading trainer later combined with David Pires to take the Class 1 handicap over 1100 metres with four-year-old second-starter Georgaroni.
The Alpine Eagle gelding is unbeaten, having won as a well backed favourite on debut in August, and appears to have a very bright future.
