SA: Double has Oppy closing on Stubby
By Peter Neall, December 22, 2025 - 10:29 AM

Jockey Jacob Opperman closed the gap on Jason Holder in the Adelaide jockeys premiership when he rode a running double at Murray Bridge last Saturday.
Opperman kicked off on three-year-old gelding Tobikko ($1.40 favourite), who ran on strongly from last to take the 1000-metre maiden plate at just his second start.
Housed at the Morphettville stable of Phillip Stokes, the Hellbent gelding looks to have a bright future.
Opperman scored again on Falaise ($4.80) 40 minutes later in a benchmark 70 over 1800 metres for local trainer Stuart Padman.
Opperman now has 18 SA metro wins for the season, a clear second behind Holder (21).
Two more for Alysha
Since Alysha Warren relocated to SA from Victoria hardly a city fixture has gone by where the apprentice hasn’t ridden a winner or at least figured in the placings.
Warren was at it again at Murray Bridge, riding a bookend double.
Riding for Telopea Downs trainer Darryl Dodson, Warren won the opener, a 1600-metre benchmark 80, on I Catchem Fox ($2.90), who came from last in a four-horse field to beat $2.15 favourite Snoopy Now.
She led all the way in the last, a 1400-metre benchmark 62, on Conni Island ($8.50) for local trainer Heather Lehmann.
Teardrop explodes again
Morphettville trainer Chris Bieg enjoyed a good couple of days last weekend, following an Oakbank double on Friday with a winner at the Bridge.
Bieg’s first Oakbank winner was Prince Lucifer ($3.10 favourite), who took a 1900-metre maiden under Jason Holder.
Shadowfax ($4.80) later won in 0-56 company over 1050 metres under apprentice Matthew Chadwick.
Holder and Chadwick had doubles of their own at Oakbank, each riding a winner for the Gawler stable of Aaron Bain and Ned Taylor.
Chadwick won a 2150-metre Class 1 for them on Oh Lovey No ($4.40) while Holder won a 1050-metre maiden on Flirt ($3.50 favourite).
Bieg’s Saturday winner was Teardrop Rotation ($3.80), who came from last on the home turn to record her fourth successive win in a 1400-metre benchmark 72 handicap. Teagan Voorham was the winning rider.
