Highly rated import Onesmoothoperator will have his first run for Bendigo trainer Tim Fitzsimmons in the Group 2 Blamey Stakes over 1600 metres at Flemington on Saturday.
The horse, who last raced in the 2025 Melbourne Cup, had a tick-over gallop on the newly resurfaced Bendigo course proper on Tuesday morning with Harry Coffey in the saddle.
The eight-year-old gelding looks well tuned for his first-up assignment, having won a 1200-metre jumpout and a 1400-metre trial at Echuca earlier this month.
Onesmoothoperator has been a noted fresh performer in the past, having taken out the 2024 Geelong Cup and 2025 Moonee Valley Cup — albeit over longer distances and in different circumstances, coming out of quarantine for Yorkshire trainer Brian Ellison.
Saturday’s performance will give Fitzsimmons a guide as to which autumn staying features to target in the coming months.
