The father-daughter training partnership of Richard and Chantelle Jolly could play a big role in the coming autumn carnival after a treble on the Parks track at Morphettville last Saturday.
The Jollys kicked off with three-year-old filly Sicilian Princess ($2.30 favourite) in an open-age maiden over 1400 metres, giving apprentice Taylor Johnstone the first leg of a treble of her own.
Lightly raced four-year-old grey Autumn Frost ($1.60 favourite) was the middle leg of the Jolly’s treble, winning a 1300-metre Class 2 under Caitlin Jones.
Later, Jake Toeroek guided All Too Mysti ($4.20 favourite) from midfield to take out the 0-64 handicap for fillies and mares over 1400 metres.
Johnstone landed the second leg of her treble when the Gordon Richards and Damien Moyle-trained Bristler ($5) ran on from midfield to win the 1000-metre benchmark 70.
Riding for her master, Andrew Gluyas, Johnstone completed her treble on Burning Bright ($8.50) in a benchmark 68 over 2275 metres.
Local trainer Travis Doudle kept up his good run with a double at the Parks meeting, winning with Oak Park Maddison ($13) in a 1300-metre benchmark 72 and Ramasis ($3.10 favourite) in a 1400-metre 0-64. Caitlin Tootell and Will Price were the winning riders.
Two for Teagan
Teagan Voorham took the riding honours at Mount Gambier last Friday with a popular double, scoring on the Adrian McGregor-trained Fearless Monarch ($2.60 favourite) in a 1563-metre maiden and the Lisa Jones-trained Iliad ($4.20 favourite) in 0-54 company over 1312 metres.
Crowther crushes it
Kayla Crowther with a quartet and Rochelle Milnes with a treble were the stars of last Sunday’s Port Lincoln meeting on a day when all nine races fell to female riders.
All three of Milnes’s winners were trained locally by John Dunn and Krystal Bishop. The team’s crowning glory was the feature Kimba Cup (1960m), where I Need A Drink ($3.90 favourite) improved his home-track record to 25 starts for 10 wins.
Their earlier winners were Minato ($4.80) in a 1210-metre maiden and Messerschmitt ($7) in a 1000-metre benchmark 72.
Crowther’s four winners included three on the bounce in races three to five — Exotic Dancer ($2.60 favourite) for Jess Tzaferis in 0-54 grade over 1350 metres, Razella ($5) for Jackie Stoetzer in the other division of that event and Broadway Lane ($2.50 favourite) for Stoetzer in 0-56 company over 1000 metres.
Crowther capped her day by winning the last, a 1350-metre benchmark 70, on My Mate Sonny ($2.35 favourite), for local trainer Shylie Williams (who also had runner-up Power Primo).
Apart from the Dunn/Bishop and Stoetzer camps, the stable with multiple winners at Port was that of Trent and Laura Allen, who took a 1350-metre maiden with Survey Lane ($41) and a 1000-metre 0-56 with Spiritual Gal ($7). Lauren Stojakovic and Jade Doyle were the winning riders.
A couple of cup days
We’re back to Mount Gambier this Sunday for the Millicent Racing Club’s annual meeting, featuring the 2050-metre Millicent Cup, heat five of the Limestone Coast cups series.
Meanwhile, Saturday is cup day at Streaky Bay, with the main event over 1800 metres and run as the seventh heat of the Eyre Peninsula Legends Series.
The meeting will be Streaky Bay’s first to attract TAB coverage.
