More Oakbank joy for Michael
By Peter Neall, April 9, 2026 - 9:47 AM

Michael Hickmott has a close connection with the Oakbank Easter carnival and last Saturday Zoupurring ($11) gave him his second win in the listed Hills Railway Stakes.
Under the guidance of Teo Nugent, Zoupurring came with a late run to snatch success, beating the Richard and Chantelle Jolly-trained Great Maximus. Winning Revolution finishing third.
Savatoff surprises
Jockey Rochelle Milnes landed the 2150-metre Onkaparinga Cup aboard the longshot Savatoff ($31).
Trained by Paula Trenwith, Savatoff finished well from a midfield position and gave Milnes a double on the day. She had scored earlier on the Aaron Bain and Ned Taylor-prepared One More Song who led throughout over 1400 metres.
Will Price was another to nab two wins on the Oakbank card. His first was on the Travis Doudle-trained Sir Myka, who was successful over 1600 metres. Later, he guided Savsonic to victory for Murray Bridge trainer Stephen Theodore.
Theodore was in the winners’ enclosure again later, with Fine Future taking out heat 4 of the Adelaide in Autumn Series, over 1400 metres.
Gal strikes again
Brown Nose Day Gal won her second race from her past three starts when she took out the 1400-metre Queen of the Hills Handicap.
The eight-year-old mare is prepared by Roslyn Day and was ridden by apprentice Brooke King.
Jacob Opperman guided Palm Of Jumeirah to victory in heat 5 of the Festival State Sprint Series, a 0-66 handicap run over 1050 metres. The winner is trained by Phillip Stokes.
Fantastic finish for Ashvin
Ashvin Goindasamy was the star of the show at Clare last Saturday. He was victorious in the last three races on the program.
The first came on Fiora Blue for Gary and Nichole Searle and their daughter Brianna Callanan. Andrew Clarken provided Goindasamy with his second winner — Crown And Anchor. The young rider completed his hat-trick aboard Sophie Logan’s Prince Kuro.
Goindasamy then drove 500 kilometres from Clare to Penola for Sunday’s race meeting, only to find his three mounts were late scratchings!
Penola doubles
Murray Bridge trainer Gary Boyce trained two winners at Penola on Sunday.
His first came when the Alysha Warren-ridden Global Outcast was victorious over 1400 metres in maiden company. Warren also rode Boyce’s second winner, Piwhane, who claimed the 1400-metre Kalangadoo Cup.
Apprentice Tala Hutchinson also rode two winners at Penola — Tenterk for Stuart Padman and Poetic Whisper for Garret Lynch.
Connor Murtagh had a good day at Oakbank on Monday, landing two winners. His first success came on the Emma Hubbard-trained Aramoso while his second was aboard the Sarah Rutten-prepared  Imamanzor.
Dream start
Congratulations to apprentice Jemma Gutte who won her first race at Clare last Saturday on Flyin’ For Us and backed up quickly — winning on Grant Kluske’s Utah Joe at Oakbank on Monday.
