Kayla Crowther dominated last Saturday’s meeting on the Morphettville Parks track, winning three races including the listed H.C. Nitschke Stakes (1400m) for three-year-olds on Rohesia.
Starting the $3 favourite on the back of an open-age Class 3 win at Ballarat, Rohesia ran on strongly from the 400-metre mark for a convincing 1½-length win.
Trained by Ben, Will and J.D. Hayes, Rohesia is the first stakes winner for young Victorian sire Hanseatic, runner-up in the 2020 Blue Diamond.
Crowther’s other winners were for local trainer Will Clarken — Brand Her Bold ($4.40), who beat stablemate Juxtapose in a 1250-metre maiden plate, and Clarence ($7) in a benchmark 74 heat of the Festival State Sprint Series over 1250 metres.
Crowther has a strong attachment to Clarence as the gelding spells at her property.
Jason Holder was also in good touch at the Parks meeting, bringing up the first leg of a double on Mystic Wonder ($3.40 favourite) in a benchmark 66 over 1550 metres for Gordon Richards and Damien Moyle.
Holder completed his double on Bouncing Beyond ($4.60 favourite) in 0-64 company over 1250 metres for Andrew Gluyas.
Ton up for Alysha
Apprentice Alysha Warren was all smiles after a double at the Parks meeting capped by her 100th winner.
Warren scored on Sir Kingsford ($6) a 1950-metre benchmark 82 for the Gawler stable of Gary and Nichole Searle and their daughter Brianna Callanan, then brought up her ton on Jilladora ($7) in a benchmark 68 heat of the Adelaide in Autumn Series over 1400 metres.
Trained at Murray Bridge by Justin Pickering, Jilladora was bought at an Adelaide yearling sale in 2021 for $12,000 by Pickering’s father, Mark. Now a six-year-old mare, the daughter of Wandjina has had 41 starts for nine wins and earned $288,375.
Sire on fire
Gawler-based training partners Kerri McAnulty and Clint Binnie got a boost last Saturday when Dylan Caboche got longshot Kick Your Knees Up ($71) home in a 1000-metre Class 2.
The win was the first leg of a treble for formerly South Australian-based sire Sir Prancealot, the later legs being Sir Kingsford and Clarence.
Sir Prancealot was brought to South Australia by Sam Hayes to stand at his Cornerstone Stud at Angaston for several seasons. The son of Tamayuz now stands in California, where his star daughter Lady Prancealot won the Grade 1 American Oaks in 2019.
Punters’ pal
Campbell Rawiller was the star of Naracoorte’s Sunday meeting, kicking off a popular riding treble with the Ron Daniel and Trish Stanbury-trained Tanna ($3.50 favourite) in 0-54 grade over 1100 metres.
Rawiller’s other winners were for local trainer Sue Murphy — Hasta La Oriental ($3.50 favourite) in a benchmark 58 over 1430 metres and El Paso Citie ($3.40 favourite) in a 1200-metre benchmark 54.
