SA: Todd's treble adds spice to title race

Todd Pannell kept interest alive in the Adelaide jockeys’ premiership when he landed a treble on the Parks track at Morphettville last Saturday, a surface that appeared to favour on-pace runners.
Pannell brought up his first win when Snallygaster ($2.30 favourite) took out a benchmark 64 over 1250 metres.
Giving co-trainers Richard and Chantelle Jolly the second leg of a two-state treble, Snallygaster came from slighty better than midfield.
Pannell brought up the second leg of his treble on Royal Sway ($4.40) in a benchmark 66 over 1500 metres.
Prepared at Naracoorte by the mother-and-son stable of Sue and Jason Jaensch, Royal Sway came from midfield for an impressive three-length win.
The Royal Symphony filly, who now has two wins from five starts, is a half-sister to five-year-old Sir Sway, a two-time stakes winner and runner-up in last year’s Group 1 Goodwood.
Pannell completed his treble when Synchro ($7.50) took out a benchmark 74 handicap over 1300 metres for Wellington trainer Michael Hickmott.
Earlier, the Jollys brought up the first leg of their Morphettville Parks double with Wine Snob ($8.50) in a 1400-metre maiden plate.
Wine Snob, a chestnut three-year-old gelding by Peltzer, was having the third start of his campaign and his fifth overall. He was ridden by Jackson Murphy.
The Jollys later picked up a listed win at Flemington with Losesomewinmore ($15) in the Hilton Nicholas TAB Straight Six over 1200 metres. Jett Stanley was the winning rider.
After last Saturday’s treble, Pannell is in third place on the premiership with 28 wins, nine behind leader Jason Holder, whose sole win at the Parks meeting was the Chris Bieg-trained Phineas ($3.70) in a 1550-metre benchmark 64.
The other main contender, in second place on 32 wins, is Jacob Opperman, who went winless from five rides last Saturday.

Cheers, Squad
A first winner for Morphettville trainer Michael Ruberry was a highlight of Wednesday’s Balaklava meeting.
The Ruberry-trained six-year-old Squad, specked from $51 to start at $41, staged a huge form reversal after a 9¾-length last at Morphettville 18 days earlier, winning in 0-56 grade over 1050 metres.
Squad started his career in Victoria, winning four races with the  Hawkes stable and one for Gavin Bedggood. The gelding was unplaced at his first seven starts for Ruberry, whose stable he joined early last year, before Wednesday’s win.
The other horse Ruberry has trained is the now-retired Putanothercoinin. Wednesday’s winner was the trainer’s 21st starter overall. Apprentice Matthew Chadwick was the rider.
Rochelle Milnes and Campbell Rawiller shared the riding honours at Balaklava with a double apiece.
