Central Victoria: Niagara's back in town with Brown
By Mary Hackshaw, June 1, 2026 - 9:20 AM

It was two-and-a-half years between wins for five-year-old Miss Niagara but a recent change of stable to that of Seymour trainer Stephen Brown clearly agrees with the mare.
Having started out with Patrick Payne, where Miss Niagara scored her maiden win, she was transferred to Tasmania, where she was winless in 17 starts.
The mare only had 20 days between her last start in Tasmania (an improved third placing) and her first run for Brown at Werribee last Saturday, where she won the Global Turf BM56 handicap over 2238 metres at a starting price of $20.
On a soft 6 track Miss Niagara scored by a comfortable 2¼ lengths in the hands of Valentin Le Boeuf.
Brown’s other runner for the day was Lady Jones, having her fourth start this preparation over 1600 metres on a heavy 8 track at Caulfield, where she finished fifth.
Lady Jones won the Group 3 Tesio stakes in October 2024, running second in the Group 2 Queen of the South and Stocks Stakes that same season.
Thank you, Yam
Wangaratta gelding Yam looks a horse to follow through the winter.
The Craig Weeding-trained five-year-old was second up from a brief spell when he scored comfortably by a length in a 1500-metre benchmark 66 on the Caulfield Heath track last Wednesday week.
Emily Pozman’s three-kilo claim was no doubt a help to the $4.60 chance, reducing his weight to a manageable 60.5kg.
Yam is an established weight-carrier — seven of his eight wins have come with burdens from 58kg to 62.5kg — and he excels on rain-affected tracks, with 14 starts on soft and heavy for six wins and five minor placings.
