Although it’s unwise to get carried away with synthetic winter form, the Glenn Stevenson-trained Blameitontheboogie may be capable of rising to the top level locally after handling a steep rise in grade with style at Devonport last Sunday.
The sparingly raced four-year-old Sooboog gelding scored a comfortable 3½-length win in Class 4 company when resuming before staying at that level and scraping home second up.
He stepped up to open company on Sunday and despite taking on some smart customers was heavily backed ($1.50-$1.28) before box-seating under Codi Jordan and booting clear to score by three lengths over TTC Newmarket placegetter Tsunami Sam.
Blameitontheboogie has now won six of nine outings and placed on the other three occasions.
John Blacker and Barry Campbell shared training honours at the meeting, each notching a brace of wins.
Blacker was first on the board with Tizsa Nice Drop, who settled worse than midfield before coming with a well timed run under former stable apprentice Jackson Radley to take the maiden/Class 1 plate over 1880 metres.
The state’s leading trainer completed his double with Captain Cam, who also finished off hard from midfield to take the benchmark 64 handicap over 1150 metres under Sam Kennedy.
Campbell’s first success came via in-form filly Taroona, who led and found just enough to scrape home in the 1350-metre Class 4 handicap under Troy Baker.
The daughter of Rebel Dane has now won her past three outings on synthetic. She was sound after facing the breeze at Hobart prior to her latest success and she’s set to back up at that track this Sunday in the Carbine Club 3YO Winter Classic.
Campbell completed his double with Hartman, who was also able to lead throughout in the benchmark 68 handicap over 1650 metres with Chloe Wells in the saddle.
The former Chris Waller representative has had a great first season locally, winning five of 11 outings since joining Cambell’s yard last spring.
