After riding multiple winners for the first time in her career with a treble at Hobart the week prior, three-kilo claimer Kirra-Lee Lane backed up with two more winners at Devonport last Sunday.
Her first victor also gave a recent addition to the training ranks, Liam Beamish, his first success with The Real Man overcoming a wide run to take the benchmark 64 handicap over 1009 metres.
Lane later combined with Stuart Gandy to take the benchmark 64 handicap over 1880 metres with the heavily supported Don’t Give Up ($3.90-$2.70), who settled midfield before weaving a passage through the field to score convincingly.
Honours were shared at the meeting, with Anthony Darmanin and Kelvin Sanderson notching doubles of their own.
Darmanin took the opening event on the card, a three-year-old maiden plate over 1150 metres, on Glenn Stevenson’s sparingly raced charge Subarashii Express, who was untroubled leading throughout at just his second appearance.
The dual Tassie premiership-winning hoop was also able to lead all the way on the Barry Campbell-prepared Simply Deep in the Class 4 handicap over 1350 metres later in the program.
Sanderson’s first success gave Stevenson a double, with former top local mare Still A Star’s sparingly raced half-brother Megalita storming home from worse than midfield for an impressive second-up win in the Class handicap over 1350 metres.
“The Iceman” completed his double aboard the Trent Wells-trained Tikken, who raced on pace before proving too strong in the Class 2 handicap over 1650 metres.
Siggy hangs up saddle
Dual licence-holder Siggy Carr has announced she will not be renewing her jockey’s licence in the new season.
Carr has battled to get back into the saddle since being injured in a trial fall at Hobart almost two years ago.
She had an outstanding career in the saddle, notching almost 600 wins including all three Tasmanian feature cups and five Group 3 winners across three states.
