Jason Holder capped his fourth Adelaide jockeys’ premiership with victory on Victorian raider Centu Cavaddi at last Saturday’s season finale at Morphettville.
Leading Todd Pannell and Jacob Opperman by 13 wins going into the meeting, Holder was in no danger of being caught.
He finished the season on 47 wins, still 13 clear of Pannell, whose winner last Saturday came via a pick-up ride on another Victorian, Cavalry Girl ($2.60 favourite) in the listed Lightning Stakes (1050m) for Warrnambool trainer Tom Dabernig.
A race earlier, last-start Sale winner Centu Cavaddi ($4.60) cruised to victory under Holder in a 1600-metre benchmark 72 for Cranbourne-based co-trainers Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young.
Both Cavalry Girl and Centu Cavaddi led all the way.
Holder’s Adelaide premiership broke a decade-long drought. He first won the title in 1995/96, and Winning Post’s Paul Richards suggests that the 30-year stretch from his first title to his most recent is a record for Australian metropolitan riding premierships (see page 97).
Adelaide’s leading apprentice for 2025/26 was Caitlin Tootell with 25 wins.
Phillip Stokes won the SA metropolitan trainers’ premiership for the second consecutive year with 44 wins. Richard and Chantelle Jolly (34) were second with Andrew Gluyas (26) third.
Murray Bridge-based Garret Lynch was SA’s leading trainer overall, as well as the country and provincial premier.
Holder was the leading jockey across all SA meetings while Connor Murtagh was the leading provincial rider.
Sophie Potter, Tala Hutchinson and Campbell Rawiller finished tied on 19 wins at SA country meetings. On a countback, Potter would win with most second placings.
Brace for Grace
Harry Grace has ridden a stack of SA winners since relocating from Warrnambool in the autumn, and he kept up the good work with a swoopers’ double for Richard and Chantelle Jolly at the Morphettville meeting.
Grace came from near last and out wide to win on Harsh ($1.85 favourite) in a benchmark 76 over 2541 metres, then again came from the back to win on Kalasec ($18) in 0-64 grade over 1100 metres. 
Eugenius too smart
Gawler trainer and jack-of-all-trades Michael McClean had cause to celebrate at Morphettville after Eugenius ($12) gave him his first city winner in 0-70 grade over1200 metres. 
With Rochelle Milnes aboard, Eugenius came from midfield with a strong run late to score by almost a length.
McClean, who also works as a farrier and barrier attendant, had earlier wins this season with Diadochos and Muffla at Port Lincoln, and with Eugenius at Gawler.
Ready to rock
The Roxby Downs Racing Club will stage its once-a-year non-TAB meeting this Saturday, with the Roxby Downs Cup to be run over 1800 metres as the fourth heat of the Outback Cups Series.
Roxby Downs, established in the late 1980s to support the nearby Olympic Dam mine, is 511 kilometres north of Adelaide.
