While Sunday’s abandoned Wagga meeting and curtailed Ballarat card left district trainers scrambling to rearrange their runners’ plans, the weekend started brightly enough for two local stables at Seymour on Friday.
The day began on a low note for Lee and Shannon Hope, with their entrant in race one, Goodello, bleeding from both nostrils and facing a mandatory three-month standdown. 
The mare has shown promise, with a third and two fourth placings from six starts leading into her 1400-metre maiden.
The Hopes’ fortunes improved in the last race of the day when Camp Cable ($8.50) scored a narrow win in the Observer@ Darley BM66 Handicap over 1400 metres in the hands of Cory Parish. 
Camp Cable clearly relishes the 1400-metre trip, with all four of his wins having come at that distance, three of them on his home track. 
Shannon Hope considers the horse thoroughly genuine and one who always gives of his best. His “away” win, at Pakenham in May, came after a horror road trip when the float was stuck in the Burnley Tunnel in Melbourne’s inner suburbs on the way to the races, something that would rattle most horses but not Camp Cable. 
Earlier, Linc Sullivan scored with $2.70 favourite Misty Whisper in The Brewer’s Table Maiden Plate (1200m), at just his third start. 
Will Gordon had the four-year-old D’Argento gelding near the rear of the field and faced a massive task, racing wide and with a huge margin to make up. 
However, the gelding grew another leg and flew home, winning with ridiculous ease with ears pricked by 1¼ lengths from the Hayes brothers’ Whimsy Smile. Sullivan looks to have a good horse on his hands.
