Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is just two short of 50 Highway wins after Mrs Goldberg took out last Saturday’s edition of the series, an 1100-metre Class 2 at Randwick. 
Nash Rawiller settled the $4.40 equal favourite midfield before storming home to win drawing away by a length from Empress Tsarina. The other equal favourite, Mrs Goldberg’s stablemate Lovecats, was a further length away in third place. 
“She surprised me with her turn of foot,” Rawiller said of Mrs Goldberg. “She’s got the speed and you could see that in the first 100 (metres). I was just conserving her.
“Like I said, she was quite electric when I went for her. I got to the furlong (200m) and thought I might have pressed the button too soon, but to her credit she was full of running. 
“Over the last 100 it was pretty soft. Matty (Dunn) had her where he wanted her, no doubt about that, and she’ll take a bit of confidence from coming here and doing that. 
“I’m sure he can place her to win a couple more down here.”
Mrs. Goldberg now has three wins from six starts including a 1200-metre success in open Saturday three-year-old company at the Sunshine Coast last summer. 
Even so, stable rep Hollie Julius said it’s unlikely the mare will contest the $2 million Kosciuszko (1200m) for NSW country/ACT-trained horses at Randwick on October 17.
Cross claims cup
Matthew Dunn’s Randwick success followed a four-win haul the previous afternoon at his home track. 
His wins included the $50,000 Bundaberg Rum Super Maiden Showcase Plate (1200m) with another four-year-old mare in French Melody, who scored by a length as $2.20 favourite with Andrew Mallyon in the saddle. 
The Murwillumbah Cup (1500m), a Big Dance eligibility race, went to the Bryan Dais-trained Golden Cross ($6.50), ridden by two-kilo claiming apprentice Archie McColm. 
It was an impressive win by the five-year-old, who scored by 2½ lengths. 
The win brought up a treble for the promising McColm.
He had earlier taken out the Charman Sprint (1200m) aboard $3.40 favourite Krakarib for Gold Coast trainer Adam Campton and the Tygalgah Cup (2000m) aboard Amplify ($2.80) for the powerful Ciaron Maher stable.
Raiders reign
City stables dominated last Sunday’s $200,000 Goulburn Cup (1400m), won by Jay Ford aboard Just Party ($13) for Rosehill training partners Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou. 
The winner, resuming from a spell, won by just over a half-length from the John O’Shea and Tom Charlton-trained $2.80 favourite Cross Tasman, with the Chris Waller-trained Declichy Boulevard a close-up third. 
The first country NSW-trained horse home was 10th-placed Ticklebelly for Goulburn’s Scott Collings. He was beaten home by eight Sydney horses and the Ballarat-trained sixth placegetter Welcometotheshow. 
The only other country horse in the race was Canberra-trained San Marino, who ran last of the 16.
Ford went on to complete a riding double, scoring on Skirmish ($21) for Kembla’s Kerry Parker in the 1400-metre Class 1.
Earlier, the $50,000 Super Maiden (1400m) went to the Chris Waller-trained $1.40 favourite Gaultier, ridden by Lee Magorrian.
Coming up
This Friday’s country action is at Moruya for the South Coast Clubs Cup (1425m). 
Saturday is cup day at the Gulargambone Jockey Club in the central-west plains, with the feature over 1200 metres.
Sunday’s Mudgee meeting will be highlighted by the 1400-metre Black Nugget Cup and an 1100-metre Super Maiden.
There’s provincial racing across the weekend at Gosford (Friday), Kembla Grange (Saturday) and Wyong (Sunday), while there’s a country TAB meeting at Grafton on Saturday.
