Rising SA sprint star The Cosmic One is headed for Victoria Derby day after extending his winning streak to four in the benchmark 78 Sportsbet Jockey Watch Handicap (1250m) on the Parks track at Morphettville last Saturday. 
The Travis Doudle-trained The Cosmic One ($4) led for much of the journey under senior jockey Ben Price, carrying his full 61kg, to take his career record to eight starts for six wins and $200,920 in earnings. 
The five-year-old Cosmic Force gelding is now likely to target the Group 3 Rising Fast Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on October 31.
“I’m really excited — the world is at his feet,” said Price, who has been aboard throughout the gelding’s winter/spring campaign of six starts for five wins.
Raiders reign
While the day’s biggest star was a local, the border-hopping trainers did their fair share of damage at the Parks meeting, with four of the nine winners trained in Victoria.
Mornington trainer Jason Warren got the ball rolling with last-start home-track winner Chicago Blues ($4.80), who came from midfield under Todd Pannell to win the benchmark 64 Sportsbet Get On Extra Handicap (1250m). 
Bendigo’s Toby Lake brought up his first metro win when last-start Ballarat synthetic winner Tennessee Spirit ($2.90 favourite) won the Class 2 Sportsbet Green Tick Handicap (1000m), keeping up the good September run of apprentice Jordyn Weatherley.
Cranbourne co-trainers Mick Price and Michael Kent junior joined in with Giggenbach ($4.40), who scored from on the pace  in the benchmark 78 Fleurieu Milk Company Handicap (1956m) under apprentice Caitlin Tootell.
Geelong-based Matt Jenkins concluded a good day for the Victorian trainers when last-start Tatura winner Prestige Zerprise ($9.50) swooped from near the rear under Kayla Crowther to take the 0-64 PFD Food Services Handicap (1400m). 
Old firm doubles up
Jockey Jason Holder and trainer Andrew Gluyas took the day’s honours on the Parks track with a double, kicking off with Somewhere Soon ($4 favourite) in the 0-68 Fotobase Group Handicap (1556m). 
Holder and Gluyas completed their double when Dirty Old Town ($5) came from worse than midfield to take the benchmark 72 Thomas Farms Handicap (1400m). 
The Dirty Work mare, who was second up, now has four wins from 10 starts. She placed in the listed Morphettville Guineas in her last campaign and could be headed back to black-type company later in the spring.
Diversity prevails
Murray Bridge trainer Jessica Tzaferis looks to have a handy pick-up in Diversity, who made a winning debut for the stable in the 0-64 Croser Handicap for fillies and mares (1400m). 
Piloted by Jacob Opperman, Diversity ($6.50) led all the way.
A daughter of Anders, Diversity began her career with Lee Freedman, later winning two metro Brisbane races for Freedman’s brother Michael.
With only 10 starts to her name overall, the four-year-old is another of last Saturday’s winners who could progress to better races.
’Bool beckons Macca’s Song
Goolwa trainer John Macmillan has a contender for November’s $300,000 Jericho Cup following the win of six-year-old gelding I Love This Song ($21) in last Sunday’s benchmark 75 heat of the series over 3150 metres at Mount Gambier.
Apprentice Brooke King was the winning jockey, and she combined again with Macmillan to complete a back-to-back double on another $21 shot, Dougal McKeen, in a 1400-metre benchmark 56.
Earlier in the day local trainer Wayne Walters and his jockey daughter Kate Walters combined for a double of their own with Peyton Jane ($3.90) in a 1400-metre maiden plate and Min Kiata ($5) in a benchmark 66 heat of the Sportsbet Country Sprint Series over 1200 metres.
