Central Victoria: Raiders rule, Stacey's got it goin' on
By Mary Hackshaw, November 2, 2026 - 3:42 PM

Central Victorian trainers had a day out at Berrigan on Saturday, with four trifectas on the six-race card and the other two winners trained in Bendigo — which, while not strictly central Victoria, is close enough.
Both those winners, including the cup winner, were prepared by Stacey Kirkpatrick, daughter of trainer Shelley and picnic rider Craig.
It was a first career double for Stacey Kirkpatrick, who saddled up her first runner at the same meeting in 2024 and now has 13 winners from 46 starters at the very healthy strike rate of 28.
That first runner was Alternate, who ran second in a benchmark 50 on Berrigan Cup day 2024. Kirkpatrick brought him back last Saturday and he duly won the Berrigan Cup (1600m) as a $6 chance with Brad Vale aboard.
Wangaratta trainers Craig Weeding and Craig Widdison supplied the minor placegetters, Fox Appeal and Grey Lad.
Kirkpatrick and Vale made it a running double in the last, a 1600-metre maiden, with $2 favourite Gold Gladiator.
Second was Ardeshe, trained at Seymour by Catherine Hutchinson — formerly known as the multiple Group 1-winning NZ jockey Cathy Tremayne.
Earlier Kilmore’s Jody Thompson teamed up with rider Hannah Edgley to take the 1100-metre maiden with $5 chance I Am Vengeance, from La Shadow for Echuca’s Gwenda Johnstone and Typhoon Romance for Wangaratta’s John Fitzgerald.
Fitzgerald took the next, a benchmark 50 over the same trip, with Time Angel ($3.80), ridden by Alice Kennedy. Thompson and Wangaratta’s Craig Weeding supplied second and third.
The 1200-metre Class 2 went to Dubai Fountain ($2.80), trained by Andrew Dale and ridden by Josh Richards, from fellow Wangaratta trainee Group Chat (Craig Widdison) and Nineveh, trained at Benalla by Grant White.
Mansfield’s Gerald Egan took out the benchmark 50 over 1400m with Under The Hat ($3.60), ridden by his apprentice Brittany Button. Wangaratta’s Andrew Dale and Ashleigh Smith trained the second and third placegetters.
Paparazzo gets the cash
While Craig Weeding went winless at Berrigan, the previous day saw him take out the Coorparoo Park Stan Sadlier Stakes over 1400 metres at Wagga with Paparazzo, ridden by Jake Duffy.
The same day at Kilmore, Seymour trainer Hannah Powell won the Stephen King Memorial benchmark 56 over 1612 metres with $3.10 favourite Mahmudah, in the hands of Brittany Button.
The mare has shown a liking for the Kilmore track, having finished in the first three at all three starts there.
