I beg to differ
Racing is all about opinions and Adrian Randi (26/11) is certainly entilted to his, but I could not see Manikato, a marvellous horse, beating Black Caviar.
She is terrific and I don’t think she has to do anything more to justify the idea that she is the best sprinter since Vain and Todman.
Horses should be rated on their best form, not longevity, and I have no doubt that those two were better than Manikato, who nevertheless was a great horse.
I am not sure that Adrian realises that Vain only raced as a two- and three-year-old.
His last three starts were at the 1969 Flemington spring carnival.
On Derby day he won the six-furlong feature sprint by 12 lengths. On Oaks day he won the seven-furlong race by six lengths and on Stakes day he carried 10Ib over weight-for-age to win the mile feature.
He was a sensational horse.
I’m not sure who would win out of Todman, Vain and Black Caviar. But I believe they would all have beaten Manikato.
