Good omens
This is the story of a casual conversation last Friday between customers at Get the News and Lotto newsagency in Williamstown.
Owners Ron and John were discussing syndicate bets for Saturday’s racing at Flemington when all of a sudden they had three customers in the shop all named Frank (Frank Stein, Frank Cassar and Frank Viscgu). On the spur of the moment they decided to find a horse racing somewhere in Australia with “frank” in the name. They found a horse racing at Warwick Farm that day called Frankiefourfingers. Incredibly, the other person in the shop at the time was the famous Mark the Cleaner, who has lost a thumb on his left hand (four fingers are left).
Each of the six people in the shop put in $5 each and plonked it on the nose at best price ($7.50 fixed odds they got).
You would not believe the horse duly won the race to loud applause in the newsagency at 4.40pm Friday afternoon.
Are there any other people around with stories of omen bets like that?
